Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway - Disneyland

Mickey does not act like Mickey. I have never seen the new cartoon shorts so have no idea how he acts in them but the Mickey in that ride is NOT the brave and fearless Mickey Mouse I grew up with or have known my whole life.

Go back and watch the early Mickey cartoons and you'll see a Mickey who freaks out, makes mistakes, and uses his pluckiness to solve problems that spin out of control. These newer cartoons are rooted in the very same energy and style as the original shorts rather than Golden Age Fab Five cartoons.

Exactly. Couldn't have said it better myself.

It would be nice if some of this new projection tech was featured in Spiderman.

That's what I'm expecting, only in the case of Spider-Man they will have the spider-bots scurrying all over the landscape as targets, ideally with a variation of patterns so you don't aim at the exact same spots every ride through.

As much as I dislike the new style and the more gross-out moments in the new shorts... Yes, I would agree that Steamboat Wille and other early entries are pretty gross in spots.

I caved and watched a full ride through except for the pre show which people seem to be saying is the real WOW moment. I’m happy to see that the issues I had with the ride from my first viewing of a partial ride through are limited to mostly the Wild West Room, Daisys studio (dark rides just work better when they re....dark) and to a lesser extent the tornado scene.

The Wild West scene is too bright and Empty. I would have chosen a location that better fits the medium for this room. The Tornado scene could use more dark clouds and stuff in the background to give it some more depth but it’s a quick scene/ small room and Not a huge deal. Daisys studio looks big and boring. I think they should have had some funny scene with a Donald AA instead. In fact, it’s kind of strange that Donald is so MIA in this attraction considering the source material he provides.

I think the rest looks great! Love the tunnel with Mickey and Minnie’s car pulling up to next you. The noses on the side of their faces thing is kind of odd but it doesn’t bother me too much. The big city scene with Pete stands out to me as probably my favorite scene with the most depth but I also think the volcano (?) to waterfall to underwater scene is pretty great. Love the water effects on the wall when we re moving through the pipes.

I really like the theme song. It’s catchy and I really enjoy the finale at the park with the Wonderful World of Color-Esque choir singing along in the background.

Overall, I love the use of projections. It really does feel like you stepped into a cartoon and I imagine it’s even more convincing in person. I do wish there was some zippier movement but regardless, I think it will be a great addition to DLR. I also agree that it’s placement in Toontown is more fitting of this ride. Not necessarily that it makes more sense in Toontown ( I actually like the concept of the DHS version more and really like that neon marquee) but just that it’s placement is more fitting of the ride experience it offers. As the centerpiece of the park I can see how it can be a tad underwhelming especially for all those still lamenting the loss of GMR. Anyway, don’t be cheap Chapek and continue the construction at DLR. You guys will just make 500 billion this year instead of 501 billion.

I hope they plus a few things on the DL Version like having the vehicle park on a simulator and tip forward during the waterfall scene.
I would assume that is already simulated with a quick lurch forward.

Did you notice traveling down the river looks 3D? Likely by using similar techniques as the Pinocchio movie.

I think I'm the lone non-spoiler hold out?

I am actually pleased to see at a cursory glance most of you seem to like it.

Ive not watched the full ride through, but it was hard not to see quick snippets on Instagram. The pre show was spoiled for me.

Listened to the song though, highly recommend! So fun and wonderful.
