Looking back to the original Mickey shorts and not to the Golden Age cartoons would be like watching the first season of Seinfeld. The earlier work still had yet to find its footing of what it was going to be. That should not be the standard.

It's how MM got popular in the first place in order to morph into something else.

That's Walt's mouse. Period. Stop pretending it's not part of the history of MM because it doesn't fit the narrative that the current iteration of MM isn't "the real Mickey."

Classic case of No True Scotsman.

I'm not saying it's not the real Mickey, I'm saying it's not the good Mickey.

I think I'm the lone non-spoiler hold out?

I am actually pleased to see at a cursory glance most of you seem to like it.
I watched the full ride through, and to me this is by far the most interesting, seemingly fun, repeatable attraction they’ve added to the parks for a long time. I’m actually looking forward to riding this some day.

I also actually like the new Mickey shorts. The style doesn’t bother me and from the few I’ve seen, they have a lot of fun references to the parks etc.

Ughhhhh, being positive is sooooo draining. 😩

I agree. The style has grown on me and I have to admit they are entertaining. I enjoy all of the references to the parks too.

Goofy though. He just won’t grow on me. Those yellow/ green eye balls have to go.

I agree with you! There's something about this ride that just looks so fun and unique and utterly charming. It's going to mesh in so well at Disneyland, dare I say much better than at a dramatically weaker park like DHS.

It's alarming to be so positive about something so suddenly. We've been so used to being underwhelmed and mildly disappointed with Star Wars Land the last 8 months, that a genuinely fun and impressive new ride is a tad shocking. Bravo WDI!

Star Wars Land, Pixar Pier, GOTG, Pixar Fests, Summer of Heroes, Fried Chicken Celebrations, Emotional Whirlwind, Bing Bong’s appendage peaking through a bed sheet, pay us money and we will give you a map that shows you the location of some churros that you can walk to and purchase for full price, and then we will give you a button. It’s been a rough few years. 😔

it does look cool and the visuals are amazing but at the same time (after experiencing ROTR and seeing MMRR on video) if you put a gun to my head and told me to choose between a trackless frozen ride or Frozen boat ride for DL I’d go with the latter.

1) Mickey quickly evolved from his crude origins into a more likeable character. His Initial popularity was due in large part to him starring in the first sound cartoon. Walt and crew knew he’d have to develop to remain popular. The new cartoons have devolved him back into an idiot.

2) Many people are enjoying Idiot Mickey. That’s fine—the cartoons are well done and can be quite funny. But, again, this is Roger Rabbit in a Mickey costume. As done by the Fleischers.

3) Which I think is fine for this ride. I actually think the Fleischer vibe helps create a toon world that feels strange and unique.

Yeah, the Mickey of the new shorts is horrible... the traditional Mickey would never be so angular, disproportionate, abuse animals, have nonsensical plot elements, or stoop to gross humor like hanging from a cow's teat and getting a faceful of milk. No. Walt would never let that happen.

One could also argue his popularity also came from the fact it was a sound cartoon, something new and exciting. This version of Mickey changed pretty fast considering.. the gags worked better with Mickey playing straight man to Donald or Goofy.
