Miceage Update: New Soarin film by 2015, DHS refurb on the way.

OK, here's my question.... what is the better description of the current situation: There are three different proposals for DHS but TDO is still not certain which to do and are having ongoing discussions/research/whatever to decide. *or* There were three plans on the table for DHS and TDO has picked one and is doing the work on it, but the details haven't been leaked.

I guess my point being, are they still spending time trying to figure out what to do with DHS? I mean, how long does this take? We know they've been strongly considering and planning for a Cars Land equivalent for a year now. I'm sure the Lucasfilm acquisition could have impacted the dynamic, but this sees like the kind of thing that could be decided in the course of weeks or a month or two since the basic options have surely been developed a while ago.

I think a Star Wars themed area would make the most money for the park. I think the only way they don't add a SW themed area is because they open a SW themed park.

I wonder what park will play substitute for Shanghai Disneyland in the new Soarin' film. A big part of the reason for flying over Disneyland is because Disney's California Adventure was under constructive when the film was shot. Shanghai Disneyland will likely also be less than show worthy. I'm guessing either the Magic Kingdom or Tokyo Disneyland (if a version is to go to Tokyo DisneySEA) with part of that footage then being at the local attraction. Cinderella Castle is the most similar to the new Storybook Castle. Tokyo Disneyland currently has the largest hub, but coordinating at Walt Disney World may be easier, especially if the Japanese version is not on course for a similar opening).

Is there any chance of it not being an opening day attraction?

They could have the rest of the film ready and then film over Shanghai over the first few days of opening and open it soon after, or maybe they could just show the film without an ending until they film one, or maybe they could use a CGI version of the park?

I would guess that Shanghai would want their castle to be featured, and not anyone else's - although, I guess that they could use Hong Kong (still part of China).

Personally, I'm hoping for a Star Wars area as well -- as least as the major component of an expansion. I would also like to see something added to Pixar Place as well, though; at a minimun, they should put a ride into Soundstage 1 which is just sitting there in a prime spot essentially empty.

If they do that now, then down the road, they can look at replacing LMA/Backot Tour much more easily because the attraction count would be higher and taking those off-line would not be as big of a problem.

Interesting point, but I would think it would be relatively easy to film a scene at DLS before opening. I'm sure they'd do a test run of the fireworks and lightening well in advance to make sure it is ready for opening and they could film then.

I agree, they need more of a presence from the Pixar rides. I'd love to see an attraction based on The Incredibles.

They could probably shoot the park closer to opening and then digitally fix anything that doesn't look complete.

Since the negotiations began with the Government of Hong Kong, Shanghai Disneyland has always been an issue. I think they'd take issue with using their park and possibly creating some confusion, not to mention the very different sizes and designs of the two parks.

I think they'll just fly a helicopter over Shanghai when it's nearly finished, then cgi some fireworks and crowds.

Digitally fixing a filmed construction site takes time. The ride will also have to be programmed to match this footage. Unless the attraction is a late opener, that's going to make for an incredibly tight schedule.

This is correct. IMAX can do 3D on all screens except the IMAX Dome system (which is what DCA has, basically)

im sure they can figure a way of making an imax dome 3d. Im not saying that they wont have to innovate a new technology and change 3d projection as we now it but its possible.

Has anyone addressed this at all?

I'm pretty interested in how the whole park plays out, China-fied due to their censorship. I wonder if any local accomodations will also be in place? (restrooms, for example...) or will it be an Americanized park like ours?
Well, it will be missing key parts of a disney park like Main Street, and other references to freedom, though there may be a little exhibit for America, such as the American Adventure at Epcot, except modified. Shanghai will basically be like any normal disney park except modified to fit the demands of the Chinese government, who disney has a good relationship with.

I am just so tired of getting my hopes up and nothing ever happening. I won't believe anything is going to change until I am riding the rides or walking through the parks and see it for myself.

Plus all of the Disneyland Dark rides getting updates for the 60th.

MK's dark rides need to get updates esp Peter Pan, once 7 dwarves is open now is the time to close it and do a complete refurb because the ride is god awful compared to the other ones. With the closing of Snow White it really is the worse dark ride in o-town. Oh yeah, i forgot about Imagination.

If we're really going to have each version of Soarin' with its own resort at the end, then I don't think there's a perfect solution for Shanghai. Maybe they could get the castle and the area between the castle and the entrance ready a month or so before and rush into production, but I think the easiest/best solution is to use another park for the first few months until they can film Shanghai. If you decide to do that, then at least Hong Kong makes sense because it's still a Chinese park.

Not being sarcastic, going off of the attendance records just released. Number One park in the world, WDW. Most visited. So why not make this park the first priority? I get it's Disneyland, the first park, but WDW is the king. Why does it seem it is always an after thought?
