Cheesy amusement park?

Agreed (and Paradise Pier looks even better now, because the Maliboomer was torn down).

Nobody ever suggested changing the theme of two boulevards at DHS, since Hollywood Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard are the strongest parts of the park right now. DHS not only needs new attractions - it needs placemaking in the non-boulevard areas (and the removal of the hat, of course). I strongly believe DHS needs a DCA-style makeover, and that doesn't mean plopping a ferris wheel somewhere or altering the best-themed areas of the park.

Furthermore, to anyone who actually understands what took place at DCA (the person I quoted clearly doesn't), they would know that a lot of DCA remained the same after the makeover. Grizzly Peak, Condor Flats, and Pacific Wharf, for example, barely changed at all over the past 5 years. That's because the makeover was focused on the weakest areas of the park: the atrocious Sunshine Plaza, Paradise Pier, and Hollywood Pictures Backlot. Some of these areas still need work (Paradise Pier and Hollywood Land), but my point is the refurbishments didn't drastically alter the areas of DCA that were already solid. That shouldn't be a concern at all for DHS - the concern is if DHS will receive enough to fix its flaws. I don't think Cars Land is the only thing DHS needs (and it might not need it at all, if the park receives other noticeable enhancements).
dude....I totally get what went down at DCA. I love what happened. You clearly didn't get my post if you think I said anything BAD about DCA makeover. What I said is someone mis-informed Megan Mouse about what a "DCA MAKEOVER" all entitles. I was explaining that the OLD Hollywood parts like Sunset and Hollywood would NOT be touched but that's where she was coming from!

Nothing against DCA, Just agree that DHS should get a "DHS makeover" rather then call it a "DCA Makeover", considering we don't even know what there plans are as of right now and that the two parks are completely different. I for one would love some more OLD Hollywood feel so if they want to expand with that....fine with me. But I will stick to my instinct and say adding a whole carsland, will be even more of a cohesive mess! So yes I do know what I am talking about and don't act like you know more than me, when you read my post wrong. thanks.

I was talking about the original person I quoted not understanding (Megan Mouse), and I stand by that. Anyone who says Cars Land "is the only cool part of DCA" or that DCA "looks like a cheesy amusement park" clearly doesn't know what actually went down at DCA.

As for 'DHS makeover' vs. 'DCA-style makeover', what's wrong with saying DCA-style makeover? It's a commonly accepted term, and it fits the rumors of what's coming to DHS (a new land or sub-land and some placemaking, which means improving the theme where it's currently lacking). The other type of redesign (a 'Hong Kong makeover') would be adding new lands and cool attractions to the park without addressing the park's other flaws. The DHS equivalent (adding Cars Land and nothing else) is not what I support (read the last line of my post you quoted). Your friend Megan, however...

The only thing Disney should take from DCA is Carsland. That's all Hollywood Studios needs. Great theming, great restaurants, great rides, great shows, and great stores. IMHO get rid of the Backlot Tour because it's not what is used to be and get rid of the LMA Extreme Stunt show because it costs a lot of money to run. Take those two things out and add a Carsland identical to DCA and leave the rest of the park ALONE.

Oh, I didn't even see the Maliboomer in the picture. I agree, from the pictures I've seen, Paradise Pier looks way better without the Maliboomer.

Honestly, it's still a great shot - the Maliboomer doesn't even look that bad there! I just wanted to point out that it's gone so nobody could use it as support for their "cheesy amusement park" argument.

I'm trying to figure out what the problem is with pumping money into a park, even if it's near perfect. I wouldn't care if the park didn't need anything, if the company wants to enhance the park even more and pump money into it, please, by all means! Unless people just things to always stay the same, which is the impression I'm getting.

"Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world."

Or they could just leave the park alone, since everything there is already adequate. /sarcasm

Haha, I cropped it out of the original image anyways. I didn't take the shot, and I've never actually been to Disney California Adventure, but I think it looks like such an awesome park after what they did to it. I would have had no interest in visiting it in it's early years. And of course I am dying to visit Disneyland. I mean, I haven't even been and it just made me mad that DCA was referred to as a "cheesy amusement park". Of course, I'm probably not the best person to defend it, but still.

It almost annoyed me as much as "Islands of Adventure is a roller coaster park".

Right? I really don't understand, but I'm sure if Disney announced right now they plan on spending a billion dollars on DHS, no one would be complaining, but in fact celebrating.

I hope you can make it out to Disneyland and DCA eventually! I saw the park before and after the big makeover - what a difference. As a standalone park, I could easily spend more time in DCA than in any individual park at WDW (and Disneyland is right next door, which makes park hopping a breeze). :D

And that's a great point about IOA. I've never been there, but the park seemed like some of Uni's most detailed work even before Potter. Maybe I need to check it out sometime in place of DHS...

Forgive me for enjoying Hollywood Studios. I should just spend my time complaining about how awful the parks are and how they need so much work. I should just spend a lot of money to go to Disney World and talk about all the work that needs to be done on the parks. o_O

Given that ticket prices just went up, I would say its perfectly fine and normal to discuss things that need sprucing up and possible enhancements for DHS.

You should absolutely visit Islands of Adventure. Port of Entry, Seuss Landing, Jurassic Park, The Lost Continent, etc. are some of the best themed lands out there. Port of Entry is one of the best entrances to a theme park. It's so beautifully detailed.

Now I'm strongly considering it. We're planning on heading to WDW over the summer, but this time we're supposed to have a rental car. ;) A day at IOA sounds totally worth it.

Very true but my personal opinion is that the product is fine as it is.

You are certainly entitled to that opinion, but I must say, I find it quite odd. What is fine about a park that has three 20+ year old stage shows, aging rides that have seen little to no maintenance (and in some cases subtractions - how can you tour a backlot that doesn't exist?), no parades and a nighttime spectacular that regularly misses major effects? In my mind, these are major issues and represent a significant decline in the park's value, even over the past five years, and makes the price increases dubious at best. Just a thought.
