Dumb question time. When the battery in a band eventually dies, would it not still be usable as a passive RFID device like the new KTTW cards? Sending out new bands for every little guest stay isn't nearly so critical if even a dead-battery band will still function to tap for room or park entry and the like.

A dead MagicBand is useless for potential up charge features.

But if the battery fails, what triggers the self-destruction?

When the battery drops below a certain voltage - a 'fuse' is blown breaking the RFID circuit this is a very simple circuit to build as long as voltage is above 'safe' level the fuse blowing circuit is inactive - think of it as a last gasp.

I didn't say "charging," I said "potential up charge features." Disney has hoped to sell additional services and experiences around the MagicBands which will utilize the radio.

So were all the chips in the band easily identifiable off the shelf parts? If so do you have the part numbers?
