HEY I KNOW! Let's go to the Beach Club Villas... steal their bronze Ariel... and put it in Fantasyland!!!

Ariel_sitting_in_front_of-Disney_s_Beach_Club_Villa-20000000001559828-500x375.jpg

oh, wait once we confiscate the Beach Club Ariel, then there'll be 2 Ariels in Fantasyland, 1 wood, 1 bronze... this could cause confsion and mass panic among the guests...

we'll have to then steal the wood Ariel... and we can put her in Pirates of the Caribbean! just before the waterfall!! I always thought they needs some mermaids there

This is a brilliant scheme, who's with me?

Found the below at the following website: http://www.marinersmuseum.org/sites/micro/women/myths/figureheads.htm

The practice of figurehead carving reached its height during the nineteenth century. Images of Greek and Roman goddesses and other women became popular subjects for shipcarvers. Toward the end of the century, it became common practice for a shipowner to commission a figurehead with the likeness of his wife or daughter, and to name the vessel in her honor.”
Saw somewhere else that it was common to have a Queen or Princess as a figurehead...isn't Ariel a princess?
So just tell your daughters that are in horror, that Eric loved Arial so much he named his ship after her, carved her from wood and put the figurehead on his boat to protect him at sea.
It sounds to me like the Imageneers did their research on what Prince Erics boat would really look like.

I think adults get it, but its sort of something I'd expect somebody besides Disney to make as it isn't true to story. Will little kids, girls 4-7 get it? I doubt it.

So instead of the little girls enjoying the experience of being at the Magic Kingdom, one of the greatest theme parks on planet earth, they will instead see this "signage" and think "hey, that's how her mom died..."?

No. They won't even give this thing two glances. And if they do, they will barely remember it in years.

I didn't see it as disturbing at all. Shes smiling! I looked at it more as her swimming around the ship like she does in the movie. She is an inquisitive character that likes to explore ships and things from the human world.

Is it just me or are people becoming really cynical?

It is not just you... ;)

Exactly. Thank you. As I read this thread I kept wondering if the OP had any clue as to what a figurehead actually is. How someone could possibly connect this with Ariel being killed and nailed to a ship's bow, I have no idea. I think the attraction entrance looks very good. Could it look a little more like aged wood... sure... but no issue here with the entrance on a whole or with the likeness of Ariel as the ship's figurehead.

I'll admit it does look a little weird but for the most part, there's nothing wrong with it. Pixie, I thought you'd stop your obsession and constant complaining of Mermaid with MK's version, since DCA's version "looks like a Barnes and Noble" (what?), is cheap-looking, etc.. But no. I find it comic to complain about some GRASS but calling this "gruesome" is probably even more funny.

With each complaint, my belief that you have something against The Little Mermaid becomes even stronger. I'm not joking either; I honestly believe you hate The Little Mermaid for personal reasons. I just want to know, what did Ariel, Flounder, Sebastian and the rest of the gang do to you? Maybe if we talk about it, we can bring this madness to an end. Once again, I'm not joking. I'd like an answer.

First it was the ride...
then it was grass...
now it's the ship...

Someone needs to stop hugging concept art so tightly

I actually got the grass one wrong as I saw pictures of the grass, apparently, before it was "unrolled" or something, and before they added some of the purplish-grass. It does look very good now, and I hope that this part of the ride is kept up, or that the plastic/metal doesn't fade.

You have a good point regarding concept art as I thought that Mermaid's concept art was what we were going to get, and it seemed much more bucolic and visually stunning compared to what we got.

I obviously don't hate the film, just was really disapointed with DCA's version of the ride, I actually rode it shortly after it opened, and I guess like a lot of Star Wars fan who thought, "what?", after watching the first prequel film, I was pretty disappointed. Some parts of DCA's Mermaid look really cheaply done, just wish Mermaid got the Carsland treatment in terms of stylistic choices and budget, why drag down a profitable franchise with a lackluster ride?

DCA's Mermaid's showbuilding does look like a Barnes & Noble, IMHO, and I'm not the first one to notice this! Most WDW/DLR guests would agree that MK's Mermaid got the better queue by far.

You don't just complain about the queue/facade, YOU COMPLAIN ABOUT EVERYTHING. It seems we haven't gotten anywhere, and this obsession probably won't end. I jut have one more question, then. When are you going to give us a break, with the complaining threads?

Oh, and expecting a dark ride to get a Cars Land budget is probably ludicrous.

I don't complain about everything! I think BoG is awesome, as is Enchanted Tales with Belle and I think Gaston's will be good, and I'm starting to think 7DMT will add both a fun ride and great landscaping to the area.

This message board is full of people who have "complaints" about various details and going-ons at the resort. So, if I have a legitimate observation/concern, I'll probably discuss it online, no harm there, unless you work for WDW's PR department!

I don't seem to be out on a limb as other folks on this thread sort of think that the signage looks off, and you yourself said,

I'll admit it does look a little weird but for the most part, there's nothing wrong with it.

I'd seriously be surprised if the sign was changed in the future.

BTW, I'm not the one posting zombie Ariel pictures, wouldn't want a young kid to see something like that by chance when surfing the internet.
