Mermaid Signage Gruesome?

I think the theming and queue are beyond my expectations in detail. However, one could easily complain about the ride itself. It's a clone from DL (There are certainly those that think Cars Land should not come to DHS and something unique should be build), the ride itself is just sorta ehh with disjointed scenes, weak animatronics and bad lighting. Here's hoping they have kept it a secret and it's different from the one at DL. But it's entirely possible that these issues with the ride have rubbed some people the wrong way and now the whole attraction is just sour grapes.

I personally will try to spend time in the area looking at the detail and taking pictures and the ride is just, I don't know... someway to get out.

Edit: I don't know why my font changed to so small at the end

I would be the first one to admit that my ride experience on Mermaid at DCA has colored my view. I don't know what I would think if I rode MK's Mermaid first and if it was an improved ride. Interestingly, we haven't seen any photos of the inside of MK's Mermaid. Could be subtly different, but produce a much better hollistic experience.

Insiders have told us that it is exactly the same, but I find it odd that the only pictures we have seen were pretty obviously from DCA and not from the MK although released as pictures from the MK. It makes me suspicious there might be some secret changes. But my expectations are that it will be identical.

My expectations would depend in part on when in the timeline we are, after Eric meet Ariel or before. And what if he commissioned the figurehead *after* she was turned into a human? Would he want to remind her of the aquatic world she left behind? Also, it is actually a shipwreck, as opposed to a real ship . . . is it Eric's ship? Crashed on the rocks below his castle? Wouldn't he send out servants to chop up the wood and clean it up?

I would also mention that the shipwreck has lanterns with lights on it. Will look good at night, but would a shipwreck really look this way?

It's a decoration based in part of the film. Nothing more, nothing less.

It's done terrifically well. Looks interesting, and serves as a sign for the ride, while fitting the theme.

Gruesome, not in any way, shape or form.

I would love for you to send me links to other threads, that aren't yours, that also complain about certain things in Mermaid.

How about posts from this thread from people who also have dislikes regarding Mermaid?

Folks in other threads have complained about how Mermaid is sort of lukewarm in terms of overall experience.

I'm not saying it's wrong. I said it was annoying and irritating. Like you said, it's a free country, so just like you have the right to post what you want, I have the right to tell you it's annoying to not only me, but to others as well. Plus, I never demanded you stop. I just asked when we were going to catch a break. Not the same.

I am not going to post more, or less, based on comments from others. If something on Mermaid, or another attraction, piques my interest, then I will post.

It is odd!

When Disney Seas opened, Disney didn't want fans in the U.S. to know too much about the park, hence they sort of avoided pictures and talking about it in the U.S.. Should MK's Mermaid be improved upon when compared to DCA's version, I can kinda see why the suits wouldn't want uncomfortable comparisons. Many, if not most, DLR's APers don't like DL's Pooh, and are aware that MK, and even Tokyo DL, have better versions of this ride. I can see why they might want to avoid the inevitable comparisons, especially given the level of criticism aimed at DCA.

RIght. It is probably the worst thing on the internet right now that someone could see by chance when surfing the internet.

Hey, you did a good, even great, job creatively, I did a double take when I saw zombie Ariel. Would I want my five year old Ariel fanatic to see it? Do I even need to answer this question?

I didn't request posts, I requested threads. If you can show me multiple threads where various members of this forum are complaining, like you've been for the past couple of months, then I will retract my statement.

Thank you for finally answering my question, after I don't know how many back and forth posts.

Well, thanks for the compliment. I had fun making it. Again, there are, um, far worse Ariel-themed images out there than what I did. As a father of three, I would recommend supervision as about the only thing you can do . . . good luck!

Definitely not gruesome, but I don’t find it odd either. Ships of that time period had figureheads on them. What figurehead would you expect on Prince Eric’s ship?

Who would I expect? Not his girlfriend for #1.. :) They didn't make figureheads of their spouses. I don't think the ship there is a great choice in the first place.. reminds me too much of the ship they kicked everyone off of in Norway.. there but not there.

Overall I think there are better choices (IMO) - but I don't find the choices they made deplorable.

Ummm...

Found the below at the following website:http://www.marinersmuseum.org/sites/micro/women/myths/figureheads.htm

The practice of figurehead carving reached its height during the nineteenth century. Images of Greek and Roman goddesses and other women became popular subjects for shipcarvers. Toward the end of the century, it became common practice for a shipowner to commission a figurehead with the likeness of his wife or daughter, and to name the vessel in her honor.”
Saw somewhere else that it was common to have a Queen or Princess as a figurehead...isn't Ariel a princess?
So just tell your daughters that are in horror, that Eric loved Arial so much he named his ship after her, carved her from wood and put the figurehead on his boat to protect him at sea.
It sounds to me like the Imageneers did their research on what Prince Erics boat would really look like.

Interestingly, Eric's boat on Storybook Land Canal boats has a mermaid figurehead, can't tell if it is "Ariel", per se. The front of the boat looks very similar, only the ship in MK is obviously a ship wreck.

Thanks for the defense with my own post, as it was quite common to have a spouse or royalty as a figurehead on the front of a ship. If you’re going to have a ship wreck in front of the attraction I can't think of a better figurehead than Ariel herself. But if flynnibus doesn't like the ship wreck in front of the attraction I can respect that opinion. I like it though.
