Well thats your opinon. In my media studies class we discussed the transfer of emotion and feel from the person to the product. You connect the product with the person. Now if the person isn't attractive or has something special going for them (celeberties fall into this too) why would you make that connection, that need, that want etc, etc.

I know I tend to buy products that have pretty people on them. If I saw some hideous chick advertising Maybeline products, than I probably wouldn't buy Maybeline. Same goes with soda... if you see an overweight man selling diet coke, you're not going to buy it. It's the TRANSFER of ideas... "If I get Maybeline long lash blah I'll look Adriana Lima"... "If I get a diet coke I'll look like that girl."

*deep breaths* Okay, I'm doneeee now.... truely. Take my infromation and do with it what you must.
Sorry hun but I'm a marketing major in college and you are completely wrong. What Lil' Mermaid said was absolutely correct. People are more likely to connect to someone who is average looking and looks like them. Contrary to popular belief ______ appeal is the least effective variable when selling a product. Sorry to burst your bubble but your little High School class told you wrong. I guess you really DON'T know everything....

I take marketing classes and will be considered a business major after one more credit, and plan to study this in college.

My "opinon", as you called it, is a well formed and proven theory that we have spent many months in both classes studing. Most (and the keyword here is most) people won't buy a poorly made product from a good looking person. If the person isn't that great looking but the product itself is well made, affordable and the consumer has a need for the product they would buy it even if the Hunchback was selling it. I don't care what supermodel sells makeup. If I don't need long lash mascara, I won't buy it. Same goes with most things. If Javy Lopez is selling catchers mitts, but the mitt itself is a piece of garbage, I won't buy it.

P.S. Look over your spelling.
Hahah! Owned!!!! You go girl!

All I have to say is.. I'm a management major and just learned a lot about marketing as well. I will be graduating with my management degree next May... I didn't want to start it, but Shanice and Lil Mermaid have said it all. Yeah, S. ex appeal does sell, but it is not the most effective way. Unfortunately that is what a lot of advertising is. I hate seeing FAKE people advertising stuff, we all know that they are not even using it. Prime example, just because Jessica Simpson uses Proactive doesn't mean I am going to use it to cure acne. To be quite honest, I think it is a complete turn off when they try using "hot" people to sell average products because products aren't magic and EVERYONE knows that they will not look like that unless they have some sort of problem. Not to say that anyone on here has a problem, because that is not what I mean at all, HONESTLY, but saying that if anyone thinks they will actually look like Jessica Simpson if they use Proactive is absolutely rediculous. OKay, enough ramblage!

I'm sorry, but I wouldn't buy that if Mark Mulder was doing the ads for it. :hurl:

I don't care WHAT it is... If Mark Mulder's selling... I'm buying! :slurp:

Note: That was intended as sarcasm. That wasn't supposed to be taken as proof that good looking people can sell anything... I wouldn't ACTUALLY buy something that I didn't need it doesn't matter who is selling. I just thought I'd spell it out for those a little slow on the uptake. ;)

As others have stated... I buy products that I need. I don't buy anything because the person who's selling it is attractive. I buy items that are of good quality and are at a good price. "Real" people make products seem more "realistic".
Besides, when I see make-up or hair color ads with models in them, I always look at the tv and say "Yeah, right". I know good and well they don't use that product. I'd be really stupid if I were to see one of those ads and think "Wow! If I use that product, I'll look just like her!"

I'd just like to interject with an example dealing with the original topic of this thread, Megan. Even IF hot people sell products better than less hot people, Megan isn't trying to sell crap to us. By the time we SEE the Resort TV, Disney's already got our money. Sure, something might be mentioned in the show that leads us to spend an extra buck here or there, but for the most part, Disney's already cashed our check and is spending that money on more pin stores. So, even if Christina's argument does hold a teensy bit of water, it really doesn't apply to resort tv.

I have to sort of disagree with you on that.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but if let's say Rosie O donell was selling anything I would not buy it, infact when she was the spokes person for K mart I refused to shop there cause she is so hideous! and I live right next to a kmart and I would go further on down the street to shop at walmart!

I wouldn't buy something because Paris Hilton was selling it either. If she were my child, I'd hang my head in shame. If she happens to be selling a product that I normally buy, well, I'd still buy it, but it has nothing to do with that she's selling it. I would just think to myself that they picked a bad spokesperson.
We all know that when a company hires a spokesperson to say that they use their product that it's a bunch of bull. We all know that rich movie/tv stars and models don't use Walmart hair color. I would like to think that people are smarter than to think if they use a product that a celeb is being paid to promote, they will look like that celeb.

EXACTLY!!! A paid spokesperson is a hired hand, no more and no less. I strongly resent corporate America's attempts to manipulate me (and my money) through false and misleading advertising, and I think a fast-growing number of consumers feel the same way.
