Meerkats no longer in Pangani Forest

They could be sick. There are excellent veterinarians at AK and they will take care of them. I really like the meerkats...they are the prairie dogs of Africa. I hope if they are sick they are going to get better soon so all the little children can enjoy seeing them and learn about them.

When we took a tour in late Oct, the deer and the vultures had been moved out of that area and it looked like some construction of some kind was going on. Something to do with the zebras. We were told that the weather was not conducive to those deer - the ones that stood up on their hind legs - and they were moved to a different zoo. But the meerkats were still there then. Some time ago I heard a rumor, or was it just speculation - that when the new festival of the lion king building was done that the meerkats would be near there. ? Our tour guide told us that the rumor she heard was that the zebras would be allowed to roam all the way to that viewing area, but she had not heard this officiallly.
They could be on Holiday. Disney has a great travel company....

We walked Pangani on Friday and the meerkats were not to be seen. No CM on hand in their area to discuss their suspicious absence so nothing to report except that they were, in fact, not there. (although it was 8:15am and they might have still been enjoying their coffee and morning paper in the burrows)
The animal you're talking about is a Gerenuk. I was under the impression that they weren't removed just relocated until they finished the zebra habitat.
I suppose we can now ask what's going on with the Gerenuks and the Stanley Cranes as well. Are there any animals in that exhibit anymore?

Saw them on 9/24, but that was a while back.

We saw them 11/17, but they were staying mostly hidden, and close to their burrows. Apparently the local birds of prey like to swoop down on them and try for a meal. The CM said they've yet to lose one.
Does anyone know about the Gerenuks or Maribou Stork? It doesn't look like I got photos of them when I was the on September 3rd, so they may not have been there. I do know that they were there on January 5th because I have photos of them from that date (below).
