MAXPass (upcharge mobile Fastpasses) coming to Disneyland...impacts to WDW?

This whole premise that you have to "run" all over DL to get FP's is really funny. Honestly, the park isn't that big, and the rides with FP are pretty close to each other : BTM, Splash, and Indy on one side and SM, ST, BL on the other. Also, there aren't that many rides that have FP's, thank goodness
  • Big Thunder Mountain.
  • Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters – disconnected – grab this whenever you want!
  • Haunted Mansion.
  • Indiana Jones Adventure.
  • Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin.
  • Space Mountain – with the Hyperspace Overlay.
  • Splash Mountain.
  • Star Tours
I think the HM FP machine is only open during the Christmas overlay.
I just hope the management doesn't slap FP on a bunch of rides that don't need it, like they did at WDW.

I AM a funny guy.

I agree with the concern about slapping FP on everything. That's annoying as heck at WDW. As for the running all over, if you want to pick you ride, and you're on the wrong side of the park, you run. As the dad, that generally means I run. And it was tiring (not a humorous premise as you suggest, but an annoying actual experience). Both at DL and DCA (Screamin' to Soarin' to Tower to RSR).

No, it's not.

"Later this year, we will launch Disney MaxPass, which will allow guests to maximize their experience by providing unlimited downloads of their high-resolution PhotoPass images and by enabling the convenience of mobile booking and redemption of Disney FASTPASS return times – all by using the Disneyland App."

The photo downloads are just a red herring.
I don't see how this is monetizing FP, nor how that quote supports your claim that it is.

From what I understand, you aren't getting any extra FPs, its just the fact that it can be on a mobile device now. It definitely seems to me at least like it's reversed from what you said, with this being paying for a DL version Memory Maker with the WDW style FPs thrown in. Nothing about it has you paying for FPs as it is the same as the free system.

What you wrote makes sense to me, and I can understand where you're coming from on FP vs FP+. I was usually the one to "run" to get FastPasses, except I rather enjoyed doing it. It allowed me to dart and dash thru crowds (and definitely not "run" thru crowds, I'm not one for running much), weaving in and out and around people and strollers and whatnot. For whatever reason, I enjoy/enjoyed doing that.

I didn't mean to offend you. It's just that I never saw these complaints about FP and being a runner until FP+. For me FP+ has sucked all the spontaneity out of my WDW visits and I will be really sad if the same thing happens to DL.

We love walking around the park and if a ride like BTM has a 15 min wait we'll ride SB and pick up a paper FP for later. If the wait is over 20, we skip the SB. But we never run back and forth to grab FP's.

Have you ever in it's existence seen a 15 min wait for BTM at Disney World? During regular hours?

Not offended at all -- internet posts aren't good for conveying a wry tone.

And before FP+, I complained mildly about running, but not much because it was better than before FP existed. But now that there's an alternative...

Before FP+ at WDW? YES. It was great.

At DL? You betcha!:D Most recent time was when I was there this last October.

I'm only talking about WDW. I haven't been to Disneyland since I was 10. So I can't comment on their wait times.

You were lucky to experience that at WDW.
You must have gone during the off season, or right when the park opened. I've never experienced that before fast pass...always waited awhile for that ride.

I hated when the paper FP came out. I never used it. We didn't get to MK early... Arrived mid day and stayed late.

You're paying to be able to book a Space Mountain Fastpass from Adventureland (or maybe from Paradise Pier) instead of having to go to Space Mountain to do it. So you aren't paying for more FPs, you're just paying for flexibility in claiming the FPs to which you're already entitled, saving you time and energy. Not as bad as selling FPs, but bad enough to annoy me.

Try booking a FastPass at DL via the Disneyland app once MaxPass is up and running and let us know how "free" a FastPass is when booked this way. It doesn't matter if it's considered a "throw in" or not, it will still cost money to book a FP on your mobile device once MaxPass is in place.

Well, personally, I've been going there for a long time, and have visited during every month of the year, so yes, I have. :D
I've been going since the late '70s. We went in June, or Spring Break, every year and I always remember waiting in long lines for certain rides.

Maybe I've just always been unlucky?lol.
We weren't a rope drop family when I was a kid. And I still wasn't a rope drop person as an adult either.

ETA- this was my first year being at WDW in winter. I've heard that once upon a time those weeks used to be slow.

Well, most recently, December 24, just before closing. 7DMT was only about 25 min, and BTM was around 15. Turns out that a fair number of people don't stay at MK late on Christmas Eve.
Weren't they open til like 2am or something?
That would be an awesome NYE!

I get what you're saying, but my point is, if you want a fastpass you can get it just the same if you aren't paying for MaxPass. So they aren't really charging for the use of a fastpass, but rather for the Photopass service and the ability to use FP on a phone.

Right. Basically this is an upcharge for a convenience. Doesn't effect anyone who doesn't wish to do it. They aren't being forced.

You don't know how this is going to effect people who use the machines instead of the app. No one does.
No I don't. But I'd safely bet that it's not going to be a huge deal to them. I think the paper people will still be alright.

But wait, I have a question...
I was thinking about FP.. I thought I remembered it coming out in the early 2000s, just googled it and it was actually 1999. You had said previously that you were 18, How were you going on roller coasters prior to 1999?lol

Sorry, just thought of that and had to ask.
