The trading powers conceit to me was an interesting story. But as I said in a follow-up post, yes Marvels could be seen as a non-interesting story to some even if I enjoyed it and found it interesting.I love Eternals, but what "interesting story" was The Marvels trying to tell? It was one of the most half-baked, lazily slapped together movies Marvel ever made. The only parts of The Marvels that worked for me where when they leaned into the absurd aspects (the singing planet, the flerkens eating people to the tune of "Memories" from Cats), but those moments were few and far between.
I've said multiple times on here, that alone is one of the biggest mistakes in film history. I truly believe that. And it's a big reason I don't think the people running Disney and Lucasfilm are the right people for star wars. It was an absolute no brainer for sure.As much as I don’t care about continuity and prefer to view each separate movie as it’s own piece of art….i will contradict myself to say one missed opportunity was to have Luke, Leia, and Han all together one last time in The Force Awakens while the actors were all still Around
Critics were unusually harsh on Guardians 3, complaining that it was too dark. That didn't seem to bother general audiences.Currently sitting with a 69 Metascore, which would make this the first and only Phase 5 movie that's above the mean (~65) for the franchise. And actually, 4 of the previous 5 movies are in the bottom 6 for the entire franchise (the outlier being Guardians 3 which still only got a 64), so critics at least seem convinced that they've done something better here than their recent track record.
Did you see Midsommer? What did you think of it?I am seeing a lot of character focus story in the reviews….which is great to hear….no matter how fantastic the CGI bombast is….it means nothing to me if I don’t care about the characters….It is why The Guardians is my favorite franchise within the MCU
Does not matter though…. I was seeing this once I saw Florence Pugh in the cast
It says “marvel”…which is “Disney”This is the thread for "absolute cinema," is it not? Have I been mislead by marketing again?
It says “marvel”…which is “Disney”
So the intent and measuring stick for success are quite fixed concepts

I obviously have been excited for Thunderbolts* for a while, but hearing that it is a character focused story ups the excitement level for me. Ugh….I wish it was 4pm Thursday afternoon!I am seeing a lot of character focus story in the reviews….which is great to hear….no matter how fantastic the CGI bombast is….it means nothing to me if I don’t care about the characters….It is why The Guardians is my favorite franchise within the MCU

I echo what @brideck said…even when I don’t think the film is great(We Live in Time)Pugh still isDid you see Midsommer? What did you think of it?
That’s great to hear! I’m really hoping it’ll be like candy- a fun treat, something to take me away from current events for awhile.Just got out from an early screening - Thunderbolts* was pretty damn entertaining!
How does it advance the overall story since End Game? Is it just a fun adventure with the Disney+ crew?Just got out from an early screening - Thunderbolts* was pretty damn entertaining!

I think the angry mouse that was driving that narrative might have been banned.Funny how the usual trolls haven’t come out and said that the great reviews are only due to Disney paying for said great reviews.
There is no real angle for their narrative as both the all and top critics are at 88/89%….as well as all and verified audience are both in the mid 90’s range on Rotten TomatoesFunny how the usual trolls haven’t come out and said that the great reviews are only due to Disney paying for said great reviews.
