Honestly, I think every time I've visited DCA it surprises me how strong it is and packed with things to do. DCA is stronger than nearly every Universal park (outside of maybe IoA and USJ's smorgasbord). Better than either studio park, the corpse of Epcot and *previously* took the edge on AK not from a thematic perspective, but from an attraction lineup. It's more pleasant than MK and previously would have even given it over the dilapidated DLP circa 2012 (that has changed).

DCA would look like an absolute star in practically every resort apart from paling to TDS and being next door to the ultimate attraction overloaded Disneyland.

I think it's an unrecognized gem that just doesn't have its nostalgia badge of honour or near perfect thematic consistency like AK or TDS.

I prefer all of Uni's parks minus Hollywood (haven't been to Singapore yet) over DCA. WDW gets bashed and in a lot of cases rightly so, but it's to the point where I think it could be a little underrated. Epcot is not what it once was but I would spend a day there over DCA anytime. AK is criminally underrated. You put DCA in WDW and I doubt it would be seen better than any park outside DHS.

I think DCA is a decent park, but fundamentally flawed. A lot of the things to do are very ordinary off the shelf variety.

Magic Kingdom *used* to be better than DCA. It's now all but unvisitable.

I'll politely disagree. MK is a solid park. It just isn't as good as its attendance numbers suggest. You put the attraction rosters, entertainment options head to head and to me there is no contest MK comes out way ahead of DCA. MK comes out way ahead of most Disney parks imo.

I have to agree, I would never say DCA is better then anything at Walt Disney World.

Magic Kingdom, while not as good as Disneyland itself is still better. Entertainment, and it has the classics and not a bunch of off the shelf fair rides with a Mickey head slapped on the front.

You then have Epcot and Animal kingdom alone is worth a visit. Animal Kingdom is the DisneySea of America and is themed better then anything in Disneyland period.

I would say DCA is much better than DHS. Personally I believe DCA is a little better than Animal Kingdom too. I wasn't much impressed with it. It felt like a lot of walking with very few rides. I enjoyed the animals and detailed environments but roaming through a jungle doesn't do much for me. I liked the hidden paths to animals. DCA and DAK are very close and I think Pandora might give it a slight edge over DCA when I visit it soon.

Epcot however is my favorite park at WDW. It ranks #2 on my favorite parks.

1. Disneyland
2. Epcot
3. Magic Kingdom
4. DCA
5. DAK
6. DHS

Ride rise, yea DCA beats Hollywood Studios, it really isn't hard to do. I rate Animal Kingdom higher due to the detail and most of the rides in the park are fantastic rides like Everest and Kilimanjaro. To me, theme and detail has to be just as important and Animal Kingdom pretty much beats out DCA in every aspect in that way. But yea DCA beats Hollywood Studios hands down.

With it's new nighttime spectacular (playing nightly, unlike DL's fireworks), its superior versions of Splash Mountain, and Haunted Mansion; its nostalgia of departed DL attractions like the Carousel of Progress, People mover, Country Bear Jamboree; unique attractions like Mickey's Phillarmagic, Hall of Presidents, 7 Dwarves Mine Train; MK is definitely a great park.

DCA is fun but almost half the rides are off the shelf filler rides. Nothing wrong with it, but WDW is still great. Disney Springs is revitalized and better than DTD, two great water parks, Epcot has uniqueness not at DL from SSE, The Land, and Seas aquarium to World Showcase. DAK is getting better and better with amazing theming in all but one area. DHS is a mess right now but it's being worked on.

Don't let anyones opinion influence you, go if you want to. If not then wait, it will still be there later on.

Don't get me wrong, I want go to WDW and im pretty sure I will someday. It's just as a DL AP and someone who goes on maybe one long vacation a year it's not the first place on my list.

Ignore them. WDW is incredible and beats DLR in almost every way. They both have their strengths, but there's just no comparison. WDW is better.

Haha. To me it sounds like WDW is obviously better for vacationers and DLR is better for locals / theme park enthusiasts.

Just curious - Why do you spend most of your time on the DL boards if you find WDW better? The little community we have going on here? The fact that it's your "home" park?

Yep, it's my home park plus the fact that the WDW boards here are daunting to navigate. When I was active on Laughing Place I spent equal time on the DLR and WDW boards.

I have a very strong feeling I will enjoy Epcot due to my nostalgic love for vintage things. For example as outdated as TL is, I have a special fondness for the whole Space Mountain/ Captain EO/ Pizza port area is it kind of brings me back to my childhood in the 80s. It also has the WED guys fingerprints all over it. I wonder if I'll "get it" as someone who has never been and has no emotional attachment/ rose colored glasses on. Or may walk in there and think the place is really outdated.

Steering back to the thread topic.....

I had hoped that the next piece of Marvel Land would be the rumored Captain America coaster, but that hatch with the Avenger logo is making me think we'll get an Avengers ride behind MB (unless it's a misdirect; Rohde is tricky) . Probably an indoor coaster/dark ride--I don't think there is room to go outside in a big way, and I'm sure Disney will want to impress. I would guess we'll get a combination of screens and practical effects; this seems to be the future.

I'd say both Splash Mountains are comparable. WDW has more sky and openness but DLR's has far more scenes and AA's. Love the "Take Me Along" Gator and other characters not present in WDW's Splash.

Haunted Mansion I much prefer at DLR. The WDW version has the terrible new queue which throws off the tone and build, it has the wacky CGI Hitchhiking Ghosts, and even the entry into the side of the facade is a let down rather than entering the facade itself. I like the eyes effect, but other than that, DLR's Haunted Mansion is much better in my opinion. Country Bears is nice in theory but sad in discovery because how run down Disney has let it get. No updated audio, the AA's click and snap audibly, and no Vacation Hoedown nor Christmas Version. Philharmagic I guess impressed people when it opened, but it's just a 3D film with no practical effects and a barren queue.

Epcot is certainly the strongest WDW park with plenty to see and do, however even half of that is shuttered. DHS is a waste of a ticket with TOT being the only attraction worth visiting. AK is a half-day park that is gorgeous, but the rides are so-so. Kali River Rapids is probably the worst rafting ride I've been on, I miss the scenes in Kilimanjaro Safaris, Dinosaur is a dark version of Indy without the scale and grandeur, Everest is a decent coaster with broken effects. Flight of Passage seems like a great attraction though. I will say, Festival of the Lion King was the biggest disappointment. I heard how amazing it was on all the tourist guides and everything. It was the floats from DLR's Lion King Parade parked in a warehouse with a mediocre floor show.

All in all, I enjoyed my time at WDW, but the quality is definitely a step below DLR. I will go back and will certainly buy less park hopper tickets as each park, except Epcot, is about a 1/2 day park. You can probably do all 4 parks easily in 2-3 days if you have transportation.

It is the present / future. I fear that the future will be more VR. Intrigued by augmented reality though.

Anyway what's interesting to think about is what would sorts of rides would Disney include in a brand new park stateside? I would hope there would be at least 2-3 (themed) traditional coasters. There is still a place for them.

That's crazy talk.

When we just went this past summer, everything was a walk on and we finished the parks in a few hours. We wanted to stay for the nighttime activities at AK, but after the 4th ride on Everest and it only being 3 in the afternoon, we decided to head back to the hotel to rest. There's a reason their parks have shorter hours, they don't have as much to do.

Let's be honest here. Has BTMM even been topped when it comes to themed coasters or even comparing to some of the newer high tech rides? I would argue that BTMM takes you somewhere in a way that feels organic that something like FJ doesn't even come close to doing.

I'm curious about VR. I followed the creation of Darren Brown's Ghost Train attraction in Europe, and that relies heavily on VR headsets for the ride portion. I'd be interested to see how Disney would handle it and if it didn't feel like paying for an experience most people can do on their cell phones right now.

I don't doubt it. I guess the disclaimer should be an experienced guest who knows where to go and what they like/ dislike can do it in 2-3 days.

I'm the type that wants to experience and see every nook and cranny on my first visit. See some of the smaller things that might be missed by a first timer. Then on my second trip I would probably be more like you.

I would agree, but the subject matter lends itself to this format. Its the old west; it's dirty, gritty and definitely low tech. It's a good match

I think Disney would have to get past the headset issue. From what I've seen (not experienced) they are too cumbersome to be a widespread success.
