Marvel Land Discussion and Rumors

I don't have any details on the current iteration of the project. The Cap coaster was going to be an attempt at a Gringotts-ish dark ride/coaster hybrid. I'd imagine the Avengers ride will be similar - how lame would it be if they just put in some indoor coaster like Tron? Tron is fun and fits its IP, but that would be a big let down for something like the Avengers.

A dark ride/ Coaster definitely makes more sense for the Avengers. But I have a feeling something like Tron would be more repeatable. For me at least.

How about a dark ride Coaster with 3 show scenes. Beginning, Climax and End? That way you have enough time to build up enough constant motion and then some thrilling finale before the last show scene.

Tron is fun, but it's a 60 second ride with very little by way of effects or scenery. It's fine for what it is, but it's not the life changing E ticket a lot of people seem to imagine it to be. The only life changing ride at SDL is Pirates, which is earth shattering. There's no other way to describe it - it's that good.

Internally, WDI's goal with Alcatraz is to surpass Pirates. If they can just match Pirates, it'll blow people's minds, but if it surpasses it? Lord.

This is my concern with the Marvel stuff - they don't seem to realize that giving Star Wars the balls to the wall treatment will make anything else they do half-assed look bad. They need to not half- it. DCA needs to hold its own as a draw against DL, and opening SWL will make that even more important.

Good point. So far they have one overlay of an attraction that was already popular so they have to step it up.

It would be awesome if Alcatraz was a trackless, waterless Shanghai POTC.... or better.

So do we have any idea of what the land is going to actually be? Based on how marvel in the parks has been explained and the hint outside of GOTG:MB/ hazmat stunt, Im gunna guess that S.H.I.E.L.D has stationed itself near DCA investigating the arrival of the fortress? Maybe the Guardians are somehow involved in the Avengers coaster as well considering they'll all be together in the next Avengers movie. IDK this all seems a bit convoluted unless they're just going with "Marvel Studios."

Personally I would only rate the two studios parks in Paris and Orlando below DCA. I don't think DCA is a bad park, but I can't put it any higher than 10 out of 12.

Honestly, I think every time I've visited DCA it surprises me how strong it is and packed with things to do. DCA is stronger than nearly every Universal park (outside of maybe IoA and USJ's smorgasbord). Better than either studio park, the corpse of Epcot and *previously* took the edge on AK not from a thematic perspective, but from an attraction lineup. It's more pleasant than MK and previously would have even given it over the dilapidated DLP circa 2012 (that has changed).

DCA would look like an absolute star in practically every resort apart from paling to TDS and being next door to the ultimate attraction overloaded Disneyland.

I think it's an unrecognized gem that just doesn't have its nostalgia badge of honour or near perfect thematic consistency like AK or TDS.

I'd rather be in DCA than any park at WDW in their current states.

Considering the hordes of people who are flocking to both parks without Disney barely trying, does it really matter? I guess what I'm questioning is your assertion that "DCA needs to hold its own as a draw against DL". Sure, the rabid Disney fans will argue this, but how does Disney measure success for DCA vs. DL Park?

It's comments like these that don't have me running to see WDW.
With it's new nighttime spectacular (playing nightly, unlike DL's fireworks), its superior versions of Splash Mountain, and Haunted Mansion; its nostalgia of departed DL attractions like the Carousel of Progress, People mover, Country Bear Jamboree; unique attractions like Mickey's Phillarmagic, Hall of Presidents, 7 Dwarves Mine Train; MK is definitely a great park.

DCA is fun but almost half the rides are off the shelf filler rides. Nothing wrong with it, but WDW is still great. Disney Springs is revitalized and better than DTD, two great water parks, Epcot has uniqueness not at DL from SSE, The Land, and Seas aquarium to World Showcase. DAK is getting better and better with amazing theming in all but one area. DHS is a mess right now but it's being worked on.

Don't let anyones opinion influence you, go if you want to. If not then wait, it will still be there later on.

The opinion wasn't on WDW as a whole package. Was more a one to one of each individual component.

WDW undeniably has more components. Several of them just have been neglected, but change is rapidly occurring there finally. Springs and AK being the initial two standouts.

Anyways, I'm going to WDW in June for the first time in five years. The past two years have been great to the resort.
