Marvel Land Discussion and Rumors

There's been plenty of smoke around the Avengers coaster, but is there anything at all about other rides? I'd be surprised if Marvel Land didn't have a C-ticket or two to balance things out, but all seems quiet. Hopefully it's just a tight lid. For some reason (also purely conjecture) I've been expecting some kind of Ant-Man ride, maybe because he had his own film and Disney's always seemed obsessed with shrinking theme rides.

I'd love to see something Dr Strange related

Ah, right -- but I thought that was replacing their Buzz Lightyear but keeping the structure of being a shoot-em-up Omnimover?

I wonder if they would consider changing DLs buzz to an Antman ride? Maybe that's why they've let it go to hell? Of course, there's that whole thing that they want all the Marvel rides in Marvel Land. I wonder if that's really a thing though. Since Marvel is such a money maker I doubt they would want to confine everything Marvel to Marvel Land. After the Avengers, I imagine there won't be very much room for anything else significant unless the Mickey rumor is false and Marvel takes over the backlot (or Bugs Land) too. Whatever the reasoning for (possibly) wanting to confine Marvel Ip to Marvel land I imagine it has nothing to do with thematic concerns (cough cough GOTG:MB cough).

Maybe. Just maybe. There are some really big plans for Tomorrowland.

Definitely! And already with Guardians it suggests they're reaching outside the main line films of the MCU, even if all-core Avengers stuff might have been easier to tie together with theme.

It does seem like a long shot, but plausible for the reasons you mention. Could even retain some of the oversized props.

Personally I've felt Buzz was replaceable once a more advanced Toy Story-themed shoot-em-up ride opened across the esplanade.

For sure Buzz is totally replaceable. Not that this is a bold prediction but with or without Marvel, I don't think it's there in 10 years.

There's not a ton of space available. It depends on what the coaster looks like, but it's doubtful that multiple attractions can be built on the land adjacent to GotG.

Steering back to the thread topic.....

I had hoped that the next piece of Marvel Land would be the rumored Captain America coaster, but that hatch with the Avenger logo is making me think we'll get an Avengers ride behind MB (unless it's a misdirect; Rohde is tricky) . Probably an indoor coaster/dark ride--I don't think there is room to go outside in a big way, and I'm sure Disney will want to impress. I would guess we'll get a combination of screens and practical effects; this seems to be the future.

Keep in mind that Civil war, while a Cap movie, was essentially an Avengers movie. The Avengers lineup is so fluid that I really, really doubt this will be the lineup from the first Avengers movie.

Avenger's could still refer to Cap, Scarlet Witch and Falcon... then depending on when it is specifically set could include the line up at the start of Civil War or the line up post Civil war (I think Ant man being less likely as he's getting his own ride in Hong Kong).

I.e. no Iron Man, Hulk or Thor. Which, based on the direction they seem to want to take with the "Theme park Universe", I feel like this ride won't include those three.

Spiderman will head up WDS, maybe Strange and BH6 take the lead at WDW.

No sooner did I post that...

Is that supposed to be Black Widow or Captain Marvel?

Also looks like the Mission: X is starting to carry through for attractions. Needless to say the inclusion of Starlord perhaps means the cross-appearance is a-ok as long as the attractions are set in different time periods.

Hurry up D23... I've been patient.

I used to have a strong urge to get to WDW, but I don't anymore. I'd still like to visit at some point, but the burning desire is gone. Now I'm more interested in traveling to other states and different countries. WDW can wait.

Good to hear, especially from a young person!

WDW has its merits, particularly in what's left of the original intent at Epcot. Magic Kingdom has a handful of unique D Tickets notable for their novelty or historical Disney significance (CoP, PeopleMover, Country Bears). The rest of the parks are shockingly light on rides, have an alarmingly creaky lineup of live entertainment and are a wash, unless you are a huge fan of the Avatar movie. The remaining WDW experience is themed hotels (of varying success and interest), typical tourist activities like water slides and mini golf, and a big mall in Disney Springs that is not quite as fancy or fun as The Grove or The Americana but could hold its own with Fashion Island or Pacific City.

Also, the weather in Orlando is horrific 9 months of the year, especially for Westerners not used to humidity and torrential rainstorms.

But it's fun to do at least once. 20 years ago it was a much bigger draw for a West Coast Disney fan. Now, not as much. When Marvel Land opens at DCA, perhaps even less so.

There are certain things I wish we could snatch from WDW and put in Disneyland, such as Carousel of Progress, the Peoplemover, Country Bear Jamboree, Astro Orbiter, Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse and the only Haunted Mansion that is never given a ridiculous Christmas overlay with ugly cartoons and neon lights. Yep, they've sure got some awesome unique stuff.

I agree with you there. Since the DLR expansion and the opening of DCA I've been less inclined to fly all the way to Florida from California for the sole purpose of going to WDW. In fact I've only been once since DCA opened, and it was for work.

Outside of summer the weather is very bearable. Especially January, March, April, May, September, October, and November I find. Live entertainment is very high at Epcot, DAK is full of animal exhibits and shows that are as great as entertainment. DHS has classic streetmosphere and MK still has great things like the Barbershop quartet. DHS is the only park I'd say is light on rides. Disney Springs is beautifully themed. DTD at DL I found is still stuck in 2001.
