Marvel Land Discussion and Rumors

Well you know, I go to Hollywood often and have seen Spider-Man, Captain America, Iron Man and star lord in front of the Graumans Chinese theater all the time.

I think we can say that the area can still be called Hollywood land and have Marvel characters fits the theme perfectly. :)
They could even start charging people five bucks a pop for a photo and be even more in theme. $$$$$$$$ win/win!

They can have them fight for a spot on Hollywood Blvd and then chase the guests that don't pay for the photo. Make it really authentic

I go to NY a few times a year for work and our office is on Broadway and 45th right in the middle of Times Square. I literally have to walk through a cavalcade of bootleg Disney and Marvel characters to get to the building entrance, and it is hilarious how terrible they are.

So, if this dark coaster is mostly neon cutouts as well; are people be okay with that?

I would be really disappointed if that were the case.

So based off of our limited knowledge I'm guessing Marvel Land will encompass everything to the right of the Hyperion to the expansion pad behind GOTG where the Avengers Coaster is going. Here are some lingering questions I have...

1. If the Avengers Coaster is going in the expansion pad behind TOT what is all that room in the current bus drop bus off area going to be devoted to? Iron Man? Marvel Land shops and restaurants? Isn't Iron Man kind of redundant with an Avengers ride?

2. Are there plans to keep Hollywoodland? I'm guessing yes and that it will include Hollywood Blvd, the Hyperion and the backlot.

3. What are the plans for the backlot? Do we get the Mickey ride? Would this ride be so huge that it takes up the entire backlot and all of the showbuildings? I doubt it, so what else goes there? Will this area be swallowed up by Marvel Land too?

4. What happens to the Animation building? I would like to see this survive and stay a part of Hollywoodland. It does take up a lot of real estate and I'm sure it's "under utilized" in the eyes of Disney.

5. What happens to A Bugs Land? I think it's 50/50 it's around in 5 years. If it goes for Marvel Land or a newer, shiner Pixar IP remains to be seen.

I think with SWL on the way, a lot of the under utilized real estate in DCA is going to be under a microscope. Between all of the expansion pads, backlot, and Bugs Land I would either like to see Hollywoodland stick around and strengthened or a brand new Land none of us see coming in addition to Marvel Land.

I agree. I'd be a little surprised, and disappointed frankly, if A Bug's Land survived any sort of Marvel expansion around that area.

Throwing on my pretend Imagineering hat for a moment I think it might be cool if Hollywood Land was rethemed to Marvel and the Red Car was rerouted to Paradise Pier.

My dream is to create a Marvel Studio lot area that can be a sub-land to Hollywoodland. The Mickey ride can be a pretty big ride I bet, and Disney can create another theater facade to make the area look like 1930 Hollywood with various theater palaces. The Mickey ride would be perfect in the backlot area and can create an excellent E-ticket ride to go with Disney Animation and whatever they do with Disney Junior. With the Mickey ride in the backlot, it would also be a third stop for the trolley. With Marvel being the movie studio area while Hollywood land being the area where the movies will be shown this can be a good transition for the park. DCA goal was to keep the California legacy. We all know how hard that will be with Marvel, but if they can create a superhero backlot area it might work!

The Mickey ride hasn't been confirmed by insiders for DCA, correct? Maybe they are seeing how it will play in DHS? Personally, it would be the perfect family addition to Hollywood Land to counteract the more thrilling Marvel attractions on that side of the park. But who knows, maybe Mickey will get announced for both coasts at D23.

You basically just described Rock 'n' Roller Coaster.
Tron and The Mummy dark coasters also came to mind. I am just afraid people today have lower standards for Disney quality. And them being cheap is not the reason tourists spends hundreds to thousands of dollars to visit the resort.

I've never been a fan of Disneys take on the whole backlot / "behind the scenes" stuff. Also I think with GOTG:MB that boat has sailed. I'd love to see a Mickey E in the backlot and for the animation building to stay. The lobby is one of my favorite places at DCA.

One of the reasons don't like the idea of Hollywood Blvd going because it acts as a good transition from BVS. And with the NY themed Marvel Land rumor I definitely prefer Hollywood to be that transition.

It has not been confirmed for DCA. I don't think it will be announced at this years D23. Maybe 2019. I think this year will be all about Marvel and Star Wars... and mayyyyybe Frozen.

Yeah, I can see that. Hollywood is such a tired and worn out theme though, and Disney kind of phoned it in with HWL. Maybe if they enhanced the land somehow to make it more interesting and cohesive. The land has a decent roster of attractions, but they are all completely unrelated to each other.

An article on Mission Breakout's Avengers teaser(s).

I'm usually not too interested in the goings-on at D23, but I'm very curious to see what, if anything, is announced at the event this summer that connects with whatever the hatch refers to. Will it be just an Avengers coaster or something more?

How about an Ant-Man underground 'base of operations' that was constructed by Ant-Man's team of ants? It could appear somehow in what is currently the a bug's life area.

Wait, they have Batman v Superman too? I was wondering where those guys were.

Okay, in all seriousness, though. Hollywood Pictures Backlot is not a good transition from Batman v Superman. It's not just the giant fake backdrop at the end of the street that looks like the scene in Pee-Wee's Big Adventure where he tricks the Warner Brothers security guards. It's everything. There's nothing there but gift shops, Award Weiners (not only gross food but they serve gross beer) and the animation thing, which is a huge waste of space. The facades are all ugly and don't get me started on when you actually walk behind them into the old Mad T Party area. There was concept art years ago for a revamp of that area, but that never happened. Now, it's like they're just stuck with it, they know it's prime real estate, but they're not sure what to do with it. And neither are we.

You forgot the Hyperion, Red Car Trolley, Monsters Inc, and Mission Breakout. There's actually more to the land than people think, even more than in some areas of DL, but the different sections are so disjointed and unrelated that it's easy to dismiss the land as weak on attractions. There's also something that feels a little cheesy and cliche about literal representations of Hollywood in theme parks. Chapek and Iger need to turn up the volume on storytelling and theming to make the land measure up to what people expect from Disney.

I can't tell you how many theme parks I've been to with a Hollywood backlot theme. One even had a roller coaster very, very, very loosely themed to Top Gun. Yeah. The thing is, aside from Universal Studios Florida, which is the gold standard of this theme and some areas of MGM Studios, this theme doesn't work. We don't want to be on a Hollywood backlot, which amounts to banal soundstages and scaffolding. Ugly. Boring.
