Marvel Land Discussion and Rumors

The Wall Street Journal has confirmed our assumptions that part of the motivation behind the Fox deal would be to aquire certain rights to Marvel characters under the studio's banner.

Wish I could read the full WSJ story online but it's behind a subscription wall.

I didn't think there was any question that this was one of their motivations, at least on this board. I think the question was how they continue with those properties post-merger.

Here are the main reasons, in no particular order:

1. To be content leader, buying Fox and its assets would give Disney an entire content library to compete with Netflix and Amazon. They can bundle a streaming package for all, parts, or Ala-cart of both libraries.
2. Re-acquire the rights back to Marvel rights currently owned by Fox
3. Acquire the rights back to the original Star Wars

There has been no word since D23... Pixar Pier got more information, I’m sure we’ll be getting information before the end of the year.

And I don't expect any further information for awhile.

Pixar Pier got information released because that project already had a timeline set, summer 2018. Marvel Land hadn't had any date nor any real details provided.

I don't expect anything official (maybe more rumors) until at least next summer if not into 2019/next D23.

I thought the delay with Marvel had more to do with questions looming over the Eastern Gateway.
I would expect more info/details sometime next year.

Exactly. The fact the Western Gateway plan just got announced means they had to move their Marvel Plans around. I suspect and I think this was covered already, they will likely do a phased plan. But yes nothing announced or further details until next year, likely in the summer. However Disney has surprised us in the passed, so who knows.

The thing that interests me actually more than the proposed attractions, is how they're going to theme this land. In true Marvel fashion, the most likely solution is a New York street...in California.

I predict that the "C" in DCA is probably not long for this world.

I hear you, but Disney doesn't pay much attention to that 'C' anymore, and we probably shouldn't either.

Maybe the "California" has always just referred to your current geographical location than any unifying theme for the whole park...
The problem with this is that it implies the park's name has to be Disney California - Adventure rather than Disney - California Adventure, which is what it actually is according to all park maps, merchandise, and entrance gates.

The title "California Adventure" refers to a California based adventure. It can be a wide variety of adventures, from Indiana Jones to Marvel characters, but they need to be set within California or have some ties to the state.
