Marvel Land at DCA. Your thoughts...

I'm not that excited about a Marvel Land. I ll admit, I'm not the biggest fan of superhero movies but don't most of them take place in a big city setting like NYC or Chicago? So does this mean we re getting Downtown Los Angeles Land? I dunno. Could be a unique way to give L.A. some representation at DCA.

I love rides and lands that transport me to another place / world. It's hard for me to get excited about comic book characters in the big city. I wish they would use the the expansion pad and whatever land they have left for something like that.

An escape from a volcano we didn't realize existed off the coast of California ( until after a big earthquake or the ocean receded )would be cool. Also, an Aladdin E ticket needs to happen already. Look how popular Peter Pan is and its 60 years old. Disney has not tapped into that concept and ride system enough. They should bring the ride system over from Shangai and use it on an Aladdin E ticket. Something with the scale of E.T. At Universal but with more thrills.

We pretty much already have that - Buena Vista Street.

That's more Burbank (ish) not Downtown LA

You will find a lot more groups of teens and college age kids at DCA than at DL. Families are over at DL with a few college age couples. Standing in line for California Screamin, I thought by the guest's age, I was in line at any coaster at Magic Mountain.

Yeah. More teens could get attracted there because of Marvel Land.

Technically you're right, but I guess my point is that LA has more than enough representation in DCA. For example the Hyperion Theater's facade is based on the Los Angeles Theater that still stands on Broadway in downtown LA. There's also the Red Cars, and Hollywoodland. There's no need for a specific need for a downtown LA experience at DCA, particularly when other regions and cities in the state are hardly touched at all.

Yea I agree that an LA land is not necessary. Boooooooring. That's kind of what I was getting at in my original post. What does a Marvel land look like? A big city? A mish mash of IPs? I'm not excited for a new land that looks like a big city.

I disagree that LA has any real representation at the park but do I think it needs it? No.

Well...I kind of hope it doesn't happen either....I would rather see a Bug's Land expansion with a new dark ride.

Its obvious that Disney wants a Marvel Land for financial reasons but the better creative / cohesive decision for DCA would be to add the Captain America Coaster to the expansion pad as an extension of Hollywoodland and GOTG to TL. Something about having all of the Marvel characters in one land just seems so unauthentic and forced.

And would this land really be called Marvel Land? That sounds so terrible. It makes Star Wars Land sound good. At least it's not Lucasfilm land.

Which is why I mentioned that San Francisco could be a possibility. The 2003 Hulk film took place in that city.

Hollywood isn't LA?

The park's icon, the Carthay Circle theater, was located in LA on San Vicente between Wlishire and Olympic not far from the LA County Museum. Not sure how you can say LA doesn't have any real representation at DCA.

San Francisco could work.

I think the real question is what is the expectation of Disney's patrons, and I'm not talking about us. The expectation will be for Disney to deliver full immersion with an IP as valuable and as popular as Marvel. I think it would be a big mistake if Disney didn't go as big with this one as it has with Avatar, Cars, and Star Wars.

When I say LA I mean downtown LA. Hollywood kind of has an identity of its own.

Is that where Carthay was? I didn't know that.

Ya I would definitely rather have a SF land over LA. There's a lot more they could do with that and it's not represented enough at the park.

I see what your saying but all of the IPs you mentioned involve distinct worlds. Marvel is a bunch of IPs with the backdrop usually being a big ugly city.

There was a little bit of it at the old DCA. I would be weird to have it back.

I completely see your point, but remember Disney controls the IP... they can create custom stories, situations and locales exclusively for the parks much in the way they did with Star Tours, SW Land and the new Iron Man attraction in Hong Kong.

I liked the idea of DCA's postcard entrance and mashup of California architectural styles and landmarks, but man, in retrospect the entry into the park was terrible, especially from that view. Talk about not delivering on customer expectations!

On a side note, as a San Franciscan I found Disney's representation of the Golden Gate Bridge especially cringe inducing.
