Marvel Land at DCA. Your thoughts...

I say bring it on. I'm not a Marvel fan and unlike Star Wars I have trouble associating Disney with Marvel superheroes. However, given the popularity of the brand the expectations for a Marvel themed area will be as high as they are for Star Wars Land and Harry Potter.

My hope is that they are careful about the storytelling and ensure that it aligns with the California theme. I'm crossing my fingers that we finally see a big project themed to San Francisco. Maybe it'll be the Marvel expansion.
I don't care for comic books, but I enjoy the Marvel movies and characters enough to consider myself a Marvel fan. I'd be all for a Marvel expansion.

I much prefer the Disney-fied loose version of DCA rather than a true to form. The whole concept of recreating the place something exists in, is pointless. An idealized, although non-existent version is more appropriate for a theme park.

Yes DCA is becoming less of a representations of California and more of a nod - but I at least feel it is better off for it.

They just need to broaden the theme and lean into the 'Adventure' aspect. It will be Disney's park in California dedicated to 'adventures'. As opposed to a park dedicated to Adventures that only take place in California.

If this is the case, then Disneyland can easily be called "California Adventure."

The name of the park and even its dedication would have to be swapped out, as a park that is simply about adventures and is located in California has nothing to do with the original point of DCA and is way too broad. That would be a completely different park.

I'm not going to lie and say I fell DCA 1.0 was overall better than what we have now, but at the same time, at least it was truer to California. If they had re-created some Californian landmarks and cities with authenticity, as well as come up with attractions based on those landmarks and cities with great execution, DCA 1.0 would have been swell, but that didn't happen. Disney and their habit of creating the something "that never was" takes away from history, in my opinion, and just comes off as phoney.

With the exception of Cars Land, which admittedly is a huge exception, the park's vibe seems more immersively California to me than the original 21st century pop culture/expo California theme they started out with.

In my opinion what makes this version seem less California is the emphasis on characters in most of the content. Guests can't seem to get enough of them, so what's Disney supposed to do? With that said, a few more thoghtful additions, like a recognizable representation of San Francisco, would help greatly in rounding out the California experience.

Right - basically that's what I'm saying, the original theme didn't click and I'd rather they just lean out of it as they have been already doing. It's not so egregarious that they need to rededicate and rename it.

I'd prefer the Disneyfication of California. If I'm there for realism, I'm just going to go to the real and ultimately superior thing.

It's basically becoming Disneyland 2.0, as you mentioned. ROA, Tomorrowland, Main Street are all just idealized 'never-was'. Which, personally I'm ok with, and are the elements that work best in Disneyland. Real things through a lens of Fantasy.

I'd also rather they just get rid of Hollywood altogether too... Hollywood is just not as glamorous and wonderful as Hollywood wants to think it is, and has been way overdone. There are many other (way better) aspects of California worth celebrating.

I think DCA needs to continue with the retheming bit by bit and make everything as nice as Buena Vista St, and Grizzly Peak. I think they need to add more quality rides and get rid of the fluff rides. They have way too many fluff rides in my opinion.

Here is my Fluff list:

Non Fluff

I left Luigi's off since I haven't experienced it yet. And I didn't include shows or parades. But, in my opinion, there are way too many rides that are just place holders, and nothing unique or special about them.

Main Street used to be more realistic.

Hollywood/film &television is one of the main components of California history. One can talk about Hollywood and not speak of glamour, but since Disney does a poor job of it, I guess there's no point.

Agreed, however I love Goofy's Sky Skool! :p

I also think some of the more recent "fluff" additions, like Mater's for instance, are nicely themed and offer a break between big rides like ToT or RSR. But you make a good point that DCA has an over abundance of C ticket experiences that don't move the fun needle much, especially compared to DL.

Right or wrong I also think the target demographic for DCA might be a little different than DL. Yes DL has a huge collection of classic rides and attractions, but I can't help but occasionally feel like the park skews a little young in its offerings. I never have that feeling at DCA. Well maybe if I pass through A Bugs Land.

You will find a lot more groups of teens and college age kids at DCA than at DL. Families are over at DL with a few college age couples. Standing in line for California Screamin, I thought by the guest's age, I was in line at any coaster at Magic Mountain.
