Mark VII Monorail

This is a fun 90 second YouTube video I found of the new Mark VII's arriving at Disneyland and being tested.

Again, amateur video and pictures don't do it justice. Especially the paint job and tinted glass that both change color in the light as it moves.

I think it looks cool, but I don't think I would want something exactly like that at WDW. What colors does the paint change to?

I thought I read on the boards they were going to remove the "vomit" YOMD wraps and replace them with a new one similar to the wrap on Mark V Purple at Disneyland. Did this happen or was it just a rumor that never happened?

God bless the "Ignore" button.
While the monorails could be updated to be pretty sweet, it'd be a bad idea to budget any money towards it... for now...

I don't understand the YOAMD hate. What were the other promotions that you guys liked better?

I just hate "promotions" as a whole. It seems to me if they build to the level Disney is capable of they will get the crowds. Promotions are used to as a band-aid because a product is weak and does not sell on it's own merit. Unleash Imagineering and you won't need contrived promotions. Just my opinion.

Promotional marketing does not imply weak products... it's simply a method to encourage consumer spending. While you may not respond to promotions, they do work for many consumers and it's a very good business strategy to use promotions as part of an overall marketing campaign.

As for the monorails, I'd love to see a new version. From the pictures I've seen, the Mark VII's look very nice.

Exactly, the consumer needs "encouraging" because the "product" is not selling itself. I guarantee you no company wants to use promotions because they cut into the bottom line. It is much better financially if your product sells on it's own merit. Business 101. End of debate.

If WDW was going to get new monorail trains in the near future they would not have just spent big bucks on refurbs. My guess is it will be 2011 at the soonest.

Someone needs to get their money back for that class...

But, if you want the debate to end, that's fine, you can live in your dream world. The rest of the fickle consumers live in the real world with their monopoly games at McDonalds, price cutting smiley at Walmart and the myriad of other schemes that businesses use to tempt them to spend their money.

The issue is not the product, it's the spending habits of the consumer. Business 201.

I have heard that is especially true if you are selling moonshine, and you seem to be an expert so I defer to your greater knowledge. :lookaroun

I think that's a near blue sky hope (that I share). 2011, being only 3 years away, seems too aggressive. I'd argue 2015 at best. Though, that's not based on anything other than Disney will want to maximise the life and use of the current system until it's more expensive to maintain than purchase new.

Someday I am sure that WDW will get new Mark VIII monorails, but I also believe it is years off. Maybe we can get Disney to announce something in 2011 since that seems like when a lot of major things are going to be happening.
You may be on to something. Disney World's Mark IV came out when the resort opened in 1971. The Mark VI was officialy complete in 1991. So maybe they would replace them in 2011 since it's a 20 year gap since the last update, and there was a 20 year gap when the Mark VI was completed.

That certainly seems reasonable. The only thing is that, with only three years to go, wouldn't we have at least a couple rumors going around at this point? With 2011 being the 40th aniversary, and being that 20 years was the length between the previous update, I wouldn't be surprised to see new monorails that year. Its just that there have been no concrete rumors to substantiate this belief.

Rumors of new monorails for Disneyland cropped up first around 2002, grew to a "not if, but when" strong rumor in 2003, and in 2004 it was formally a "go" with a factory up in British Columbia selected as the manufacturer site. And then it was still four years before they showed up at Disneyland.

Since there hasn't been a peep about new monorails for WDW, and they apparently just completed a thorough rehab on the current fleet, I agree with the earlier assesment that it will be 2015 at the earliest realistically.

Unless a very reliable source or two pops up here in a few days and says that new WDW monorails are greenlit and being fast-tracked for a 2012 debut, it looks like it will be quite a while until new trains arrive for WDW.
