Does anyone know when it might make its way over to the east coast? I see they are starting to put them in DL and they look awesome! Any info? Sorry if this has already been talked about.

I doubt the Mark VII's will ever show up in WDW. Primarily there is the issue of track size and vehicle gauge, as the Disneyland beamway is narrower and the trains are a size smaller than the bigger subway-sized WDW train cabins.

Then there's the issue of design, as the Mark VII was purposely built as a nod to the original 1959 Disneyland Mark I monorail trains. The Mark VII is a train that has to look good zipping around Tomorrowland, the submarine lagoon, and around the Matterhorn and down Small World Mall, but then also look good passing through California Adventure, the Grand Californian Hotel and into the station at Downtown Disney.

I really think the Mark VII works beautifully in all of those environments from a design perspective. They hit it out of the park when it comes to the look of the Mark VII trains, and believe me when I tell you that pictures and grainy YouTube videos don't do it justice. You have to see it in person to really appreciate how awesome these new trains look.

That said, the WDW trains are looking a bit dated and rather 20th century design-wise. Maybe instead of going retro-mod like Disneyland did, they could make a Mark VIII fleet for WDW that went ultra-mod to take it into the 21st century more gracefully.

I really can't see why they would go the retro-mod route in WDW like Disneyland just did.

Prior to the Mark VII's, Disneyland had Mark V's. Disney World currently has Mark VI's if I'm not mistaken.

I think the plans are typically to alternate them between the parks, so Disney World would likely get the Mark VIII's, and I imagine that's a long ways off.

I would agree, they seem to alternate monorails at the parks suggesting that in the long distant future - WDW will get the Mark VIII.

WDW's Mark VI fleet does look a tad dated, but I hope when the Mark VIII's roll around they won't deviate too much from the original look--the white monorails, though they look pretty 70s, have become icons of Disney World. The Mark VII's look stunning, and a big part of why they work is because they evoke the style of the 1950s, when Disneyland was created; likewise, I think the WDW monorail fleet should always evoke the look of the 1970s as a nod to the era that created Walt Disney World.

Just a nostalgia thing. But nostalgia's pretty important at WDW.

Someday I am sure that WDW will get new Mark VIII monorails, but I also believe it is years off. Maybe we can get Disney to announce something in 2011 since that seems like when a lot of major things are going to be happening.

Dittos. The new trains at Disneyland are going to look great with the additions happening at DCA. That is when the full effect of the retro look will be realized. Iger and Imagineering are doing a great job paying homage to Disney history. It's happening under the radar for the most part but in a few years people will be stunned at exactly what they are doing. It will truly be awesome. Then I think they will follow up the same way at WDW.

Would it be too much to ask that they remove the YOAMD vomit-looking wraps from the front of the pretty monorails? I swear it looks like they hit something and it splattered all over the front.
