Mapping the changes...

If they're seriously devoting that much space to a 'Circusland' (which doesn't seem like a smart decision), couldn't they incorporate Mickey and the gang into the circus theme where the tents are? Circuses travel around the country from city to city. Maybe Casey Jr. brought the circus to Mickey's town and the gang is invited to participate. Goofy has his Great Goofini roller coaster attraction. Mickey could be a lion tamer with Pluto dressed in a lion costume, etc. Gives more depth to this HUGE circus area and retains a home for Mickey and his pals.

Lee, is the Mine Train building the same approximate shape and size of the old meet and great building? I'm curious if they're going to retrofit the new coaster in and out of the originally planned show building. Seems plausible so they wouldn't have to revise the plans for the waterways, etc.

Any particular reason why?

Look at the blueprints or any other illustration of the expansion and you'll see why- the pedestrian walkways are far too small to accomodate a parade, nevermind the fact it may not even be possible to get floats to the FL/TL side of the park, and there are no access points for a parade to enter/exit through, nor will any be constructed. All parade facilities are on the other side of the park, which would be obscenely difficult to access using backstage roads on that side of the park.

How would running the parade through Fantasyland make any sense? Or even be done?

The question is how does it make sense to run parades through Liberty Square or Frontierland?

There was talk of running the parade on the bridge to Fantasyland when the LS bridge was being repaired so it is wide enough. Also, while they are reimagining for phase 2 they could widen the paths in the FLE. It is obvious there will be at least 2 points that will have a wide backstage acess so it would just be a matter of adding a backstage building that could house the parade. Then just run the parade in each direction, which also has been done before by Disney. Simple.

That seems like a lot of space for circus tents. And not that I was ever a fan of Mickey's Toontown Fair (all right, all right, I cop to loving the live Disney Afternoon show that was part of it's Starland days), but it doesn't seem like the whole land needs to be razed to squeeze Dumbo in next to the Barnstormer. I know it's "temporary," but it just seems like a strange decision to me from a capacity point of view.

Speaking of strange, am I the only one who thinks it's odd that they appear to be sticking with a Goofy theme for this coaster now that Toontown is gone? Sure, Mickey and friends represented in Philharmagic, but it seems strange to stick a coaster about the Fab 5 amid so many new attractions based on the classic animated films. And with the addition of much more heavily themed family coaster in the Snow White Mine Ride, will this one stick out as too unthemed? I always forgave it a little bit, since it was part of the less immersive Toontown Fair environment, but it's the kind of coaster I'd more expect to see in Paradise Pier than Fantasyland.

Not to get too far off the topic but the current parade route doesn't "lock" guests in or out from roaming the park. It seems if the parade was routed to take a more perimeter track of the park that any guests on the outside of that route would basically be stuck. Currently it sorta divides the park and allows guests who wish not see the parade to still be able to enjoy things without being trapped.

I'm with Yeti, "why change it"?

I know the parade storage facilities are located behind Frontierland. I was just wondering if there were other reasons why.

I know it's been this way for nearly 40 years, but it's still strange to me that MK runs parades full of princesses through Frontierland. It seems that just about every other MK-style park runs their parades through Fantasyland. I think jt04 might have already said this, but I was wondering if it was outside the realm of possibility for the walkways in the FLE to be built wide enough to accomodate a parade at some point in the future.

In my mind, the parade route looks like this: The parade runs up Main Street as normal, but takes a left and goes the long way around the Hub and in front of the Castle, making another left towards Fantasyland on the bridge that runs next to Cosmic Ray's. (This idea would obviously work better is Mad Tea Party weren't in this location anymore. It might not even be possible unless that attraction were moved.) I see the parade moving past dueling Dumbos and exiting between the new Little Mermaid ride and whatever is going to replace the TTF tents.

Do I think we'll see a new parade route by 2013. No. I am just doing some speculative reimagineering here. It just drives me nuts that the parades, especially the MK parades, take their characters totally out of context. It just doesn't make sense to slap Winnie the Pooh, Cinderella and Cruella de Vil on the same float and then run that float right through a frontier town. If they're going to design parades that way, at least they could run it through Fantasyland! Of course, I'd like to see better parades regardless of the parade route.

Using your philosophy, what do princesses have to do with early 20th century rural town centers?

There is no other acceptable way to do a parade than it's current route.

One of the proposals in Fantasyland included widening the passageway between Liberty Square and Fantasyland. Having said that, the corridor with Peter Pan and it's a small world would be a disastrous route for a parade to take.
