Ok there is alot of misunderstanding so let me be perfectly clear in that I do not want HanutnedMansion ride to be removed EVER!!! It is a classic that makes Disney what it is. I had ridden it years before and loved it but never remembered the stretch room going pitch black. Of course that was before having kids, so things like that would not have been a issue. To also be clear I do not want the stretch room in itself to ever be taken down. It serves as a nice intro to the ride and sets the stage for what is to come. It is always fun watching the portraits transform as they stretch and of course that classic narration and candle gargoyles. The room itself is not a problem or that introduction. But what bothered my daughter was the few seconds of TOTAL darkness followed with the loud scream and shattering noise. Imagine those few instances from the eyes of a 5 year old. It was beyond terrifying for her and almost made for us to have to leave the attraction alltogether. but this does not mean we hate the ride or want it taken down and I apologize if there was any confusion in that. The haunted Mansion has always been a classic and always should be a classic. I am not even angry at disney over the pitch black scene, only suggesting for future guests with small children. I am not trying to ask for refund or get anything from it. lol Our trip as a whole was amazing and we will be back as soon as we can for more adventures. What Disney provides other parks can not even come close. But a few scenes could be changed to be more appropriate for children of all ages, as this is a place which advertised as a family destination. But pls do not think we hate the haunted Mansion ride or would ever want it to be taken down. Not even the stretch room as it is part of the entire experience. Just the only few seconds of total darkness. The rest is a great time to be had which makes it great!
I don't believe anyone misunderstood your original post. The majority of us are against changing that scene to meet the needs of individual guests and instead recommend that if your child has an issue with any portion of it you not attend it. Being a family park does not mean every attraction has to be acceptable to the whole family.

So should they remove the hill on splash mountain so your 5 year old can ride that too?

Come on. Give the OP a break. She already capitulated from her original post. What do you need from her? A statement such as, "You're all right! There is absolutely nothing disturbing about the dark scene. It's my daughter that is completely wrong to be frightened. In fact, to prepare her for future trips, we have been sporadically turning off the lights and spontaneously screaming just to help her cope..." No parent would do that...(well, I might have, but I've also been saving for my kids' future therapy bills). The point is that, despite the original post, the OP does not appear to be another Katiebug.

No. Disney isn't going to change anything with the ride. Period. Failing as a parent to satisfy your own enjoyment is not reason for them to change anything. That pitch black sequence has always been that way. If your kid can't handle it, then I'd either skip the ride or have someone else with you to sit with the kid while you ride yourself.

Again, I'm sick of this crap that "oh, he hung himself... my kid can't see that, it needs to come out of the ride" or "my kid has ptsd of the stretching room, Disney needs to be responsible." Themes are a HUGE part of Disney rides/movies/etc... The Haunted Mansion isn't supposed to be a happy ride.

OP will get no break. Especially now that they've basically done almost a 180 on what they said. 5 pages of negative responses later will definitely give us the 2nd post from the OP, where.. you guessed it.. ALL OF US, missed her point... 5 pages and everyone gets it wrong? Sorry, ain't buying it.

The overall PC of society. We have to hide anything and everything bad anymore. If people don't like something, like this scene on the ride, they'll complain, go to the press, get a lawyer, what have you and some judge will side with that person and it changes everything. Like in the public schools, in most districts, there isn't a Christmas Concert anymore... it's a Holiday Concert... why? Somebody got offended. Sorry, this is America. This country was founded under the beliefs of celebrating Christmas.

Anyway, these Special Snowflake rants happen all too often and for stupid reasons. If you want to be a helicopter parent that wants to police the world and hand out participation trophies and no one ever loses, be my guest, but my kid will grow up learning that life isn't fair, you won't always win and people don't want to work anymore, they want to find the "new" American Dream... Find a legal loophole with something and drive a lawsuit through it for a big, quick payday... without regard for whatever the change is doing (in this instance, this would be Disney changing the ride to keep the lights on or something).

Fair enough. Thanks for explaining.

This has nothing to do with society being pc, and I have no clue why Christmas decorations got brought into this. It is about Disney making all of its rides shows and attraction appropriate for all ages. Nobody is offended about the hanging sequence or pitch black in the Mansion but if it terrifies my child there is something really wrong. Someone mentioned the Splash hill and that is prime example of a age specific ride, as children under a certain age can not ride. as a parent this is a real problem. I am not against the entire haunted Mansion ride and never was. But that one dark scene could be changed to be more age appropriate for ALL children who want to enjoy the experience like everyone else. Disney is good with being inclusive for all people but lets not forget our core customer which is the families with small children who can frighten easy.

No - this is the problem. "If it terrifies my child there is something really wrong" is the entitled mentality that has people up in arms. The world does not need to change for your child.

Not every attraction can be for everyone. Even at a family park.

No. It will not change. There's no reason to change it. You say no one is offended, well, you don't seem happy that we don't share the same thought as you. There is no one forcing you to ride the Haunted Mansion. If you choose to ride with your daughter who is 5, you should know BEFORE you get on the ride what to expect... it's called PARENTING. You are the only one that can gauge how your child will react and determine if the ride is suitable for them.

Just stop while you are ahead, okay?

The total darkness and the scream is what makes it classic and great . My 2 year old handled it just fine.as did my 3 year old niece and 5 year old niece. Your daughter needs to not be so fragile. This is a classic segment, that does not need to be messed with. If my two year old was fine and another poste said he 15 month old was fine I think it's your daughters issue and not the attraction. What next turn the lights on in Dinosaur and Pirates? Peter pan is dark are we going to change that, spaceship earth ?
