Man caught trying to enter Magic Kingdom with gun

We were there before and after the Pulse Nightclub tragedy. I was never selected, and my husband wasn't until after the tragedy. He was selected every time after that. Epcot was the most thorough bag check. Two different occasions, they took everything out the purses (they were giant purses) of the people in front of me. One lady's purse was went inside, and she wasn't allowed to go through until security determined why it was wet. I agree with many others that it's time for everybody to go through the detectors.

Good thing that he was "randomly picked". The fact a former policer that was fired in 2013 was trying to get into MK by posing as a current police officer that try to carry a gun into MK sounds like he was up to no good to me.

What Disney should be doing is what the state Fair I went to did for metal detectors. The State Fair I went to had everybody scanned before they entered. The reason the Fair I went to did this was the fact they got over 1 million people in a combined 11 days for 3 straight years.

I am mentioning this because WDW operates every day of the year and we all know how busy WDW theme parks get.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm only basing this off first hand experience the last two days, but it seems everyone who comes through the "no bag" line is put through the metal detector and the random selection is only for the bags. I agree with the above sentiments, it's time to send everyone through.

No there is no rhythm to it when we went last week. Epcot was the most interesting shall I say. I think they pulled from TSA there. lol
I went through maybe 2-3x and there were days I had a bag and days I did not. My dh on the other hand was sent through every time and missed it maybe 2x. We laughed as he was always "randomly" selected. We were fine with it and laughed quite a bit about it. Honestly I think it should just be everyone. MK, HS,and AK seemed to have it down to a rhythm with minimal disruption, the same could not be said of Epcot.

I know people that were "randomly selected" too every time they went to the parks. Of course both of these people run their mouths near security because for some sill reason they feel that Security at the front of Disney is trampling on their civil liberties. Yeah. If someone run their mouth at Disney security they most likely will be "randomly selected". LOL

I do feel that everyone should go through metal detectors, but for the love of God make sure there are enough metal detectors for the large crowds and not bottleneck people through just a few.

We went to Universal for a couple hours last Sunday, and they now have bag scanners (not sure how recent this addition is, we hadn't been in a couple months). It was nice not having to deal with someone poking in your purse/bag. They would send it through while you walked through the metal detector and you were on your way. Well, except for the nitwit girl on front of me who refused to stop talking on her phone while she went through...

Oh jeez. That was too close. I'm glad he got picked to go through the metal detector.

But much like others have been saying, I think it's time everyone goes through. I think it's time for many securoty improvements.

Nothing would have stopped this individual from shooting people right there at the security checkpoint.

Exactly. And especially with the more thorough security, the lines become so built up that there are too many people waiting in a pretty tight area to even go through security, plus the people waiting for the Welcome Show. I estimate that someone could do the most damage right outside the gates. Without ever having to face security.

Imagine the moment where someone gets picked to go through the metal detector. They know they're about to get busted. This guy pushed on with his police lie, but as for someone who doesn't have a lie like that... I'm sure they'd just open fire right then and there.

They seriously need to prevent against that. They're tight on space, so I don't know how, but it must be done.

Where does is stop, metal detectors everywhere ???
Train Station, Subway Station, walking into a mall?
Me I rather take my chances and live without be harassed everywhere.

One of the reasons I have not gone to WDW in awhile.
"Welcome to the Happiest Place on Earth" (after we make sure you are not a terrorist)

In theory they should really check all cars that come through the gates and all guests that board the ferry or monorail, but that most likely won't happen until something bad occurs. Unfortunately that is the way

I never thought about the ferry boats before your post. With how full they get at peak times, how in the heck does Disney ensure terrorists don't try something?
