An assumption on your part. Had a police officer stopped both of the scumbags the massacre could have been reduced. You are assuming the type of gun used makes a difference. It is the individuals that made a choice to kill that day, and they would have found a way to do so with or without the guns. Heck, the worst terrorist attack in our country was done with box cutters and airplanes. France just saw a horrible attack using a truck. There are no laws that will stop dedicated terrorists.
The high school massacres were preventable without law enforcement being there. Stop sidetracking to terrorism.

No as has been proved in the UK if you want to stop school shootings you ban guns . Plain and simple .
1989 hungerford prompted a ban on semi auto weapons and limits on shotguns
1996 dunblaine prompted a ban on handguns .

Severe lack of school shootings since.

but hey you cling to your second amendment rights.
A ban on weapons in the US would lead to much more death. You cannot simply disarm a very armed populace. You have never been to the US other that tourist spots have you?

i said COULD of been alot worse... did not say it WOULD of been worse. you commented about coloumbine been during the ban and I simply pointed out that no assualt rifles were used there.

and as somebody who has lived under terrorist threat for ALL my adult life since before Bin Laden and then ISIS were a thing... we still don't need the public to have guns to stop a terrorist attack.

When was the last time a civilian with a gun stopped a terrorist attack? Laws controlling guns can make terrorists obtaining guns more difficult... which can only be a good thing.

From what my brother explained to me, they weren't really banned, they were still available with very minor modifications, like fixed stock versus adjustable, no lug for bayonet etc

Kind of true, the law was weird in that it banned certain features, like bayonet lugs and pistol grips on rifles. But a rifle without those was considered legal and was still available for purchase.

The biggest impact the law had was the ten round limit imposed on magazines. You could not buy a new magazine at the time that held more than ten rounds.

The person who committed the crime murdered the owner of the rifle that was used.. So the gun was illegally obtained and there was a shotgun in his trunk, capable of much more devastation in a small area.. That was also illegally obtained.
The gun was obtained legaly by the mother. If she couldn't have bought it then things would be different.

Alright folks, this is out of hand. A guy who was illegally carrying a weapon and impersonating an officer was rightfully stopped at the gates. The security worked in theory, this time but there is no evidence that anyone was at risk and to suggest they were is untrue.

Discussing weapons with people who don't know about them and how they operate is pointless. Discussing crime in the us with people who only come here to vacation is also pointless.

Guy breaks law, guy got arrested. The end!!

Our Supreme Court has ruled twice that a complete ban is not allowable in this Country.

And what is your opposition to police stopping school shootings?
To be fair... It is allowable. It would just take an amendment to the constitution. It can't simply be a law passed.

Not saying I support that. Just that it can be done.

No objection. If the laws over there stay the same and for the current situations then it is probably the best option. I just feel that there are better ways forward in the future

I remember reading about that, but that part of the law was also pretty pointless since you could still buy ones made before the law was passed. Manufacturers also learned their lesson, they have made so many magazines since the law expired in 2004 that they will always be available in the slim chance that a similar law would pass again.

Please don't assume i don't know anything about guns. I have been brought up around them all my life and shot quite a range of pistols/rifles ( all at legally run gun clubs) My family has shot competitevly(sp) at a few common wealth games so i am pretty fine with guns in general and don't think a blanket ban is realistic or warranted just something needs to be done law wise.
Edit; there are at least 4 firearms at my parents house and they were there when i was growing up. Locked in a gun cabinet that i had no access to , plus ammunition by law is kept at the clubs.
