In that full video they say he is not arrested or detained and is free to leave. Why, then, is it okay for them to tackle him when he attempts to leave and reaches for his phone?

This guy is a real con with an attitude, i wonder how well he knew best way to get out of there and contact someone was to get sent to a hospital. Wonder if that is why he wanted to call his mom, code for i need to destroy evidence

If they weren't going to let him contact someone before.. getting EMS and sent to the ER isn't going to change that. The guy was still able to make his own decisions, etc.

I'm struggling right now to find the bits on the timeline of when they managed to search his residence, etc. It seems they got the warrant for the phone search the day after the interview.

Two different scenarios.

He wasn't being detained at that point.. which is why when he said he wanted to leave they said 'ok'

BUT they were going to seize the phone, which is why even when they said he could leave, he had to leave the phone.. and when he went for the phone in response to that.. that's when the situation changed, and they were trying to prevent him from doing anything with the phone. The tackling was to 'protect the evidence' if you want to simplify it... Then, they switch to detaining him, which is a temporary state they can use while investigating if he should be arrested or not. The struggle was then grounds for them arresting him and charging him with his first charge (which they later dropped).

The first rule in dealing with the police is not to talk to them without a lawyer. That said the police better have more proof that the car was his than just one photo. They probably have a picture of his license plate and can prove the time, date and place it was taken. He also is in trouble if they found his other phone because they told him they have proof his phone number was where the pictures on the internet came from. He is in big trouble.

so he is being refered to by people on the net as backdoordisney, does the site belong to him or belong to him previously? is that why they refer to him as that? i glanced at the twitter page for that site and i was shocked at how many pictures of backstage areas are there. one photo shows figment animatronic in what looks like an office

Did they have a warrant to detain his phone at that point? (I honestly don't know).

Also, this should be a lesson for everyone - there's no reason to not have your phone secured with passcodes/touch/face ID at all times.

It's his account. Supposedly a friend is running it for him at this point. They'd better hope they don't get caught by the boss.

They didn't actually have proof that it was his car other than it was the same make/model/color. They were trying to intimidate him.

No, they secured the warrant the next day. But they can seize the phone before they have the warrant if they are trying to protect the evidence from being tampered with.

He no longer runs BackDoorDisney, someone else does now and they only rely on previous posted photos and submissions now, no illegal trespassing. They don’t work for Disney. Other people are submitting the pics. The Figment photo is from a collector’s personal collection who owns it. It’s not on Disney property anywhere.

One of BackDoorDisney's latest tweets was a photo of the Costume Storage.

But it's a Disney trash can. Many different varieties spread throughout the park. There was a story of a "talking" trash can that used to be at MK WDW. The trash can was named "PUSH". Stories of Push also being at DLR and DLP.
PUSH was a contracted outside source. It was the owners property and when Disney decided that they didn't want to pay what the owner and operator wanted they just didn't renew the contract and the guy left with his talking trash can. It was gone long before any of this stuff started happening. That was a show prop not a utility trash can although I suppose that among the large grouping of brain dead that frequent the parks, there was probably a lot of trash that had to be removed from it daily.

If it was a beat up Honda accord. That might be the case. Could be anyone. But a BMW on the backstage lot with Buzzy's Jacket? That is some slim pickings.

There managers who are allowed to drive backstage. Walt Disney Imagineering’s office is backstage at Epcot. A BMW backstage would not be some rare sight.
No but a bmw with Buzzy's clothes would be. Add onto that his history of uploading pics with geo data and his own stans alleging they've seen him wear the Buzzy jacket and it really narrows it down.
