So I've been going to WDW since I was born an as long as I could rember the ride current and past in Mexico never has a line (walked right on on New Years Eve. I've walked right onto Malestrom but while we are there (always peak season) it has an averge wait of 30 minutes and was wondering why the difference between the two rides?

I came up with some ideas what do you guys think?

1. Malestrom has just always been more popular.
2. Fast pass slows down the stand by line for Malesteom.
3. Malestrom loads slower.

I think the truth of the matter is that many people don't realize there's a ride inside Mexico. Its hidden off in the corner. maelstrom has its entrance right outside in the open. I think that's part of the reason. Also for a long time, Mexico's ride sucked while Maelstrom's ride has always been very solid (can't say the same for its movie). I actually really enjoy Mexico now with the birds, but it still doesn't live up to opening turn going past that temple and volcano. It seems like it could be so great, and then it lets you down.

We went during non-peak season and Maelstrom was STILL a 20-30 minute wait at times!
I'm not sure...maybe the FP has something to do with it, and it may also load slower. Maybe it has just gained popularity..?

That's a good point.

Even back when EPCOT Center opened, I don't ever recall having to wait in a tremendous line form Rio de Tiempo. Then again, I don't think Disney expected one either, as the queue as it is built, isn't very big.

Maelstrom, on the other hand, could at times have lines over an hour and a half long. I think the fact that you can see one of Maelstrom's pre drops from the pavilion might lead people to beleive it's more thrilling than it is, which makes them get in line.

Fass Pass always slows the standby lines down.

Several people i have run into the past have never even known there was a ride in Mexico. I was actually surprised how many first time visitors never even get park maps.

I'm not sure I fully buy the not knowing it's there thing. Since mostguests look at a map or are naturally drawn to the back of the pavilion you would have to think they know it's there. I think it just has a greater capacity than maelstrom.

And even though I personally love the ride, even post donald cheesinv, I can see where some would find it's odd peace and calm a bit dull.

Blackthidot....you forget about it? No dice man, you need to ride it.

You walk around the Norway pavillion and you see the sign right in front and can enter the line right through the entrance. In Mexico they do not really have a noticeable sign and you have to walk all the way back to the pavillion to get to it. Plus, as we all know, the rides are very different. More people would be more inclined to ride Malestrom more than once, whereas, the Mexico ride is a ride once (although we usually ride it two times in a row) kind of ride and move on.:)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Gran Fiesta Tour!
It has great scenery, great music, and I love the Three Caballeros!

I have to ride it at least twice everytime I go to Epcot. (And I'm a Florida AP, so i go often!)

I think it's a combination of things including what has been said:
1. Many don't know it's there.
2. I think Maelstrom is a little more thrilling.

You have forgotten to include one other reason that Malestorm has a longer wait than the Three Caballero's.....Norway is heavily staffed with female Norwegian College students.:D

Most people dont even know its there. I know many who go to Epcot but when the get back and you are talking to them didn't even know there was a ride in Mexico. That big fast pass return board just seems to draw people in. I did however go to Epcot and was there the first day it reopened after the remodel and I remember there being a line that went all the way through the station house and they had additional ropes sat up just outside of the restaurant. Everyone was joking that this was probably the longest line the ride has ever had.

Another factor could be hourly capacity. Those Mexico boats hold a lot of people. I don't know the capacity for either, but I'd bet that Mexico's is higher.
I think the points about the girls and the outside entrance are good ones, too. :) I think people are probably just drawn by the Fastpass sign. "Oooh--Fastpass. Must be something good!"

I would say its a combination of people not knowing it's there and the fact that Malestrom has a couple little drops in it and the trolls so its more thrilling.
