Major 2015 Pirates of the Caribbean Refurbishment Watch/Rumor.

This might be a silly question, but are there ever soft openings at the end of refurbs? We're leaving 3 days before the ride is scheduled to reopen, and I would be willing to stalk that corner of MK if a sneak-peek was an option.

Yes there are... I actually had the great pleasure of riding Mission To Mars about a moth before it opened, back when it initially was a really cool ride... I remember the G Force on that ride was beyond unbelievable one ... Then few people had health issues, etc and Disney bump it down... But yes they do soft/test opening

That was for a new attraction, not one reopening from refurbishment.

New rides always soft open. Rides coming back from refurbs sometimes do.

I've seen rides reopen a week before they were supposed to post-rehab, but 3 weeks is pushing it.
I think a lot of us are hoping they keep Pirates closed at least as long as scheduled- according to a lot of cast members the place was practically falling apart.

Yes, I want to be able to smell fresh paint on the reopening day!

Just curious if any knows how the refurb is going? Do they always open the ride back up the day they say or earlier? My last day in WDW will be Sept 26th and i really dont want to miss one of my favorites :(

Depends on whether or not they are on schedule for repairs. If they are done, then yes. If not, who knows how long it could drag on.

One would assume safety would have been the first issue addressed in the refurb, hopefully also the boats won't take on water anymore (haven't heard anything definitive there unfortunately). Going down the drop has been a bit scary lately due to all the talk of safety hazards and the boat problems. Hard to believe, but i've been getting FAR more drenched on POTC's pitiful drop than Splash's big one for quite a long time now...

Though Martin also mentioned earlier in the topic that show issues were also being addressed as well, particularly upgrades to the animatronics. I also hope audio gets an upgrade as well, it's a serious mess.

Agreed. The last time I rode on POTC I couldn't even hear "Dead men tell no tales" and I was listening for it. :(

We leave the 27th (arriving on the 20th). While I want them to fix this ride and fix it right, the Disney freak inside of me has all my fingers and toes crossed that it opens as scheduled. So I get what you are saying/hoping.

Actually, most people nowadays are lucky to remain alive from day to day due to their sheer stupidity and lack of common sense. Back in the 80's we did not need gates, fences and pneumatic barriers for rides and attractions.

So not true. We may not have had them, but lawsuits from the 80's and 90's caused what we see today. If they had used a modicum of safety then, maybe we wouldn't be nannied now.
