Hmm... Hun planters. I think Shan Yu would make a nice addition to the hub.

This is good news. It didn't take them that long really to do the first half so I'm hopeful it will be done in a timely manor.

Good news and I figured this was what was going to be done but I was selfishly hoping they wouldn't start for another 2 weeks as we are starting our WDW vacation on this Friday. I knew that probably wasn't going to be the case because they would probably be doing this after Spring Break and Easter but in plenty of time before Summer season started.

Oh well, I am still looking forward to seeing the parts of the hub that have already been completed!

I've always used Tokyo Disney and particularly DisneySea as prime examples to people who claim imagineers aren't nearly as good nowadays. The difference is- with DisneySea (because Disney isn't the owner/money)- they don't get their budgets cut nearly as much during construction like TWDC does- so the imagineers can actually go to completion with their projects- hence why they're so gorgeous.
If only we could get the Oriental Land Company to purchase WDW, we could really see some incredible ideas fully executed.

I guess OLC isn't a business.

I need to go to Tokyo Disney. I'm in Hawaii quite a bit for work- I'm halfway there. My only fear is how much I might hate WDW afterwards. Right now I love WDW still :)

Just the fact 4.5B was spent to build Disney Sea vs 1B for DCA or DAK is mind boggling.
When I lived in Paris in 2011 I became a DLP AP holder. At the beginning of September 2011 I was at WDW, by the end of the month I was in DLP.

The contrast was shocking.

I loved the many times I went to DLP. I love WDW for certain reasons, but going to DLP makes want WDW to be so much better.

I have been very fortunate and visited all of the Disney parks multiple times around the world on business and pleasure trips. You can read about Disney Sea, look at pictures and videos but you still will not be prepared for the difference. If Disney simply duplicated the park here in Florida, they won't, it would make every Disney park or any other theme park in the country pale in comparison. Just my opinion.

If you manage to visit please allow time to see some of the rest of the country. Learn a little polite Japanese language and you will be amazed at how you are treated. Not that you will treated badly if you do not learn any Japanese but please learn some to enhance your visit.

This times infinity! LOL! I had read endless amounts of trip reports from Tokyo DisneySea and saw a bunch of highly detailed photo reports as well. But, I still walked around the park in complete awe, with goosebumps, my mouth open most of the time, smiling like a giddy schoolgirl, and in complete shock about what I was experiencing when I was there. It was insanely unreal. Even though a lot of the attraction audio was in Japanese, I didn't care. The experience was still unlike ANY other theme park in the world. Truly stunning. And, if you ever get a chance to go there, DO IT! Or, make the chance to go. Tokyo is an amazing city and Tokyo Disney Resort is unbelievable!!

It is mind boggling and just shows that Disney hasn't been living up to the standard it should.

I haven't been to Tokyo Disney either but I really want to go. Apparently the Disney apologists that keep harping on about how "Disney is a business" haven't been either.

Once you have seen and experienced TDL and TDS you will NEVER see WDW as it is TODAY in quite the same way again.

A 1 day ticket is about 60 bucks at the current exchange rate (in one of the 5 most expensive cities in the world).

To be fair WDW in the 80-90's was at the same level as TDL/TDS is today.

You never really STOP loving WDW, But right now it's like a sports team which used to win championships regularly but now is the laughingstock of it's league - but with the right team and managers it could be great again, So the faithful still go. Boston sports fans understand this better than most. The Boston fans were rewarded, The question remains will the WDW faithful also be.

It's not a sports team. There is no championship.

Disney only understand profits. Continuing to support them is supporting their business model. If you do not support the business model you shouldn't support the product.

Seven thousand negative post on the internet won't change that.

Have you been to Disneyland?

I thought I would dislike WDW after seeing Disneyland... and I really don't. I dislike that certain things are done better from an ops perspective in Disneyland and not done at all in WDW... but in terms of appreciating the design and "magic" of WDW? Nah. Seeing another version of a magic kingdom only made me more interested and more appreciative.

What green cylinder? This? These are from last week but maybe I am just not seeing the new addition.

The green in the pics are the new towers. The previously-installed towers are hidden behind photo tarps that look like trees that are blending into the background very well in the photos, as they're supposed to.

The tree-tarp-covered ones are the lighting and speaker rigs close to the stage.
The currently-visible green ones are one part of the new tech booths that will have sound and light control and follow-spot positions, possibly also additional speaker and lighting for the parade route.

Exciting. Any idea when we should see them go in? Were there permits for the original instillation of the structures?

It's hard to say, it could be any time now, or it could be a few weeks from now. No there were no permits for the structures specifically since this was covered by larger permit for the entire project. It appears they had a different contractor doing the turret tops so there is a separate permit.

I love this arguement that Disney can't do certain things because it'll disappoint the guests. Tough. Things need to close and be repaired. You can't always have what you want. If you're like all the other suckers that flock to the place, you'll come back. It doesn't matter if you were disappointed the last time you were there or not. You'll always come back...
I didn't say things don't need to be closed down for refurbishment, I said closing down Main Street is totally unnecessary. If it were necessary I would support it

Yeah, I don't see any castle park closing down it's Main Street. DCA was a different story. They actually seemed to pick up the pace a bit with the hub project, IMO ... could they have probably done things to make it move faster? I'd like to think so but it sort of is what it is. It's a reconfiguring of the hub. That's a very large project and one where a LOT of guests walk through every single day. And a scrim on Sleeping Beauty Castle in Anaheim is different.

But overall, certain things prove to me that TDO can move faster. They just don't care to.
