Main Street U.S.A. hub redevelopment at the Magic Kingdom

And people here thought that there would be no foot traffic plans for the outer ring and they would just leave the crowds to fend for themselves. It's pretty clear from that last picture that a good portion of the outer ring will be used as a pathway during the fireworks.

Kudos to Disney on this redevelopment. It's a gorgeous addition to the hub and will make fireworks and parades in that area less of a nightmare. I'm having a hard time seeing how this was a bad idea.

People sit and eat everywhere else in the park, don't know why the grass would be different.

Well, the grass is a terrible place to eat. I prefer a freshly cleaned stall. You've already got a seat, so all you need is a TV tray which I always carry with me. Plus, you've got sinks to wash your hands when you're done. Think of all the unhygienic shoes that have touched the grass. Yucky, with a capital Y!

We really shouldn't have gotten that pizza to split though. It was awkward passing slices back and forth. While the TP roll is a nice napkin, the guy next to me was having what I call "turkey leg overload".

I can confirm that a few benches have returned to Main Street, near city hall.

Heres my issue with the new hub project, after seeing this in person, and I know they are not done, but why are there so many new light poles?? It looks ridiculous/cluttered, literally like a major interstate, they dont need that many on top of each other through the whole area. Thats the only thing I dont get.

Not thrilled with the speaker cylinders but guess it could be worse, it makes me think though Disney has lost their touch and art of hiding such things.
The short answer is math. The long answer is the lighting guys get the plan after the architects are done. They add up however much light is needed in a certain area, and then they plot out where the poles need to go and how many instruments are needed for guest walkways, parades, events, etc. Then it goes back to the project management, who look at it and make changes if they see fit - maybe they want more light in a specific area, so they ask for that. Or they look at it and, like you, say it's too cluttered, let's delete some of these poles, which means more powerful lights to make up for it, and it needs to spread evenly. That may not be possible, or it may add cost to the project that's not available. Or they may not see it as too cluttered, because they know trees are going to grow in or they just don't have the same opinion. Sometimes trees are in the plan for several months, then they're out. Or sometimes people are just human and don't catch something. But that's how and why those poles are where they are.

The FP+ section actually is landlocked. There is no additional entrances or exits into the hub from it. It's essentially a corner. Also - this is only about 1/4th of the opened area. @PhotoDave219 - take a walk in it, it's actually pretty small so I don't really see it as a huge disruption to the grand scheme of firework viewing.

I won't be there till April…

great explanation, makes sense. I'll just have to get use to it....think they will be a soft glow? or more of a jarring led white fluoresence?

Not to mention the practicality of it. If you eat the right stuff, Mexican Food for example, you can eat and dispose of it all in the same sitting. More time for rides! Do you have a TV tray that folds up enough to fit in a F anny Pack?

EDIT: to clear up what was so intelligently censored. I didn't want anyone to get the wrong idea about what I was saying.

Fast pass west area was being used tonight. Shame it's inaccessible during the day but at night it really is a reliever. Can't wait until the other side is finished. Also saw a man get carried out by a EMT's from main street and it was a scary sight.. Cpr and everything and the poor guy seemed passed out. I hope he is fine.

These lights are great. They can do quite a bit and they throw off a very pleasant light, like another poster said. The lighting in the hub will be able to add to the show in a significant way, and should be quite beautiful. Is it ideal to have the poles? No. I agree with @marni1971 in they could have done retractable, but that's a LOT of lifts (which is also a lot of lifts to potentially fail), and people will get used to them. They will eventually fade into the background (and trees in some cases). On the whole, as people are starting to see, this is a major improvement that hearkens back to the beauty of the original hub, while balancing the needs for today's crowds.
