Oh, and not to mention the lackluster refurbs we get. Space Mountain ... Spaceship Earth ...

At least Splash Mountain was rightfully fixed. I'll give them that one. Pirates is in desperate need.

Anyway ... back to the topic on hand, lol

Yeah I think some of my best memories of visiting the parks as a kid growing up every single year are from the temporary things...because they were just that - special. Now that they try to make everything special, it ends up being like my favorite line from The Incredibles, "when everything's special, then nothing is special". (Yes I modified it a bit to fit the situation, but the meaning still applies.)

The daytime fireworks and plane show at World Showcase was really cool as was the parade around the lagoon around the time Reflections of Earth first came out.

Spot on.

"Now that they try to make everything special ... when everything's special, then nothing is special"

If anyone from TDO who gives a darn and if they truly read these boards, they need to read your last few posts.

That one actually was pretty decent minus the narration and descent.

Well, I agree it was pretty decent. But the fact that, what, they ran out of time and money? I mean ... really? That's why I bring it up. Otherwise, I do agree, it was a good job and they didn't really rip it apart or ruin it. I don't actually mind the narration, but I preferred the previous one. The descent is, well, non-existent but it's a minor gripe.

Not to me it's not. All the whining about the castle cake is just that, whining. Combine that with.. Boo Hoo, Disney doesn't spend money on special things anymore and you have got a major contradiction in thought. I thought the castle cake was a fun and special way to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of WDW. It was a very temporary thing and it cost Disney tens of thousands of dollars to do it. Then all the whining started. I can hear them in the main office now saying... "Damm, we spend all that for a special effect and all we have gotten for our efforts is grief. See if we ever do that again." Now we get next to nothing. Sometimes I wonder if we don't just get what we deserve.
.

Guest services got a huge amount of legitimate complaints (not whining) about the castle cake from once in a lifetime visitors who couldn't take their classic photo.

Even worse were the many newly weds who couldn't get the wedding photo infront of a castle. That really swung it. They realised what a huge mistake they had made.

I'm curious how these were handled. I know that people book their Disney weddings months and sometimes years in advance. Were those who already booked given a warning that the castle was turning Pepto Pink? Were they allowed to cancel?

I can't imagine sitting in the wedding pavilion, looking through those beautiful windows and seeing:

Unless you were two Circus Clowns getting married to each other.

I'm glad you mentioned the excitement of 'seeing what they do each year'. They seem to have forgotten that and rely so heavily on it being a tourist destination and 'people will come anyway so we don't need to do those things anymore'. They've lost touch with what brings people in and that's why so many stress that they just don't make the effort anymore.

Since I have joined these boards, I've mostly read complaining about every single change that Disney tries to make to the parks as well as a ton of threads about new attractions and changes. I'm not sure where you are coming from.

Also, WDW seems to be at peak attendance so who's not coming?

Changes used to be improvements - the excitement and anticipation of what was on the horizon kept us coming back. I can't remember now what the last change that I got truly excited about (except for the removal of the BAH of course)

The changes coming to Great Movie Ride thanks to TCM seem to be improvements and I haven't seen a lot of people complain about that. Also the change of the BAH no longer blocking the view of the Chinese Theater.

Not to mention Avatarland, the new nighttime show at AK, the possibility of Star Wars Land, etc. etc. etc.

How long now has Avatarland been "coming soon"? The excitement for that, if there ever was one, peaked years ago. Star Wars Land is just a possibility - if and when it is built I'll probably be too old to enjoy it.

Star Wars Land does depend on the execution though, luckily one of our insiders said some really cool cutting edge stuff could be coming if the budget isn't cut so we have to cross our fingers on that one. There are people who really don't like the idea of Avatar but I am one of the ones who is excited for that. Also insiders have said AK's night show had budget cuts and not everyone is a big fan of that news.

It's nice to see someone else on here is excited about the things WDW does and doesn't just complain about every single thing they do. You'd never know this was a WDW fan site by reading these boards.

Don't exaggerate.

By now you should know that most of the more established members here strive for WDW to hold itself to the standards it used to and those it itself set. When they fall short of this the complaints justifiably begin.

@SnarkyMonkey you'll understand eventually too. Credit is given where credit is due. Sadly there have been far more wrongs than rights over the last 10-15 years. Trust needs to be earnt again.

Just because you're a fan of something doesn't mean you can't be critical when something happens that you don't like. Ever stop to think maybe Disney deserves some of the criticism they're given on these boards? That's probably a difficult concept to grasp.

I guess that was my original point. That there are some people who won't be excited about any change that Disney makes to WDW.

Some people seem to treat it like a WDW Critic site.

I'm not saying that people aren't allowed to be critical ever but some people are cynical and overly negative about every single thing. Killjoys.

Well put, Martin! It's our love for the WDW we knew that makes us critical of what is has become.
