Main Street Electrical Parade dark in early 2012

I like Spectro and MSEP for different reasons. Both of which have been mentioned. Regardless, Spectro will be back soon enough. And then the countdown can begin for MSEP's return. See the cycle? I wouldn't plan on it changing anytime in the next couple decades...

I'm with you--with all the back and forth here about MSEP vs. Spectro and which we should have, I think we (god forbid) deserve a new freakin parade. If they want it nostalgic, have a new soundtrack with some Spectro undertones, but these parades are absurd in the 2010s...with the lighting technology available nowadays, we could have something incredible if we could get our 20th century entertainment to finally glow away. Dare I say, it'd even be marketable (moreso than a daytime parade--I'd be happy with them doing away with the daytime parade and focusing on an incredible nighttime one, but I know it's sacrilege to suggest the MK not having a daytime and a nighttime parade at the same time--even though they are just fine w/ that at Disneyland). Us stupid tourists would apparently prefer to stake out a seat 2 hours early in 90 degree heat for 10 minutes of crap rather than ride some rides. The Studios' Pixar Pals Countdown to None epitomizes this. "Don't blink or you'll miss it!" Please, lock that up in Disney Vault behind Song of the South.

I don't feel a night parade is absolutely needed, but quality is.

The MSEP (1972), Spectro (1991) and the Snowglobe Parade Version 5.0 (2001) just don't cut it.

And for the record, my favorite (by far) of the three is the oldest.

But you see TDL EP Dreamlights and you realize how ancient and poor the MSEP really is ... and what happens when you spend and modernize it. Dreamlights is a 21st century MSEP. The sad thing is its already been around for a decade and been updated (new floats being swapped in for old) 3 or 4 times now.

Don't worry. This is WDW.

They'll bring it back (likely within 18 months) and make a big deal like it's something new.

At this rate, Mission to Mars will replace Stitch and WDW PR will tout this as the return of a "fan favorite." And since Stitch is so widely reviled, the change will be seen as a fantastic guest programming choice.

In the meantime, Uni quietly works on a new nighttime show.

Novel concept, "new."

Guess Disney thinks only illuminations is enPugh nighttime entertainment for the period when both fantasmic! And the electrical parade are going to be dark... Is illuminations enough for the crowds?

Yes. IllumiNations is easily the best show on the property. If that isn't enough for anyone, they are brain-dead. Or un-human.

A--you are clearly biased (profile pic)
B--If you are going to WDW for a week, alternative b/t Wishes and IllumiNations would get old pretty quickly...

Well then I must be brain-dead AND unhuman, because I really don't like Illuminations all that much. I like the fireworks, which is only about 3 minutes out of the show, and I like the music. I don't like the globe, and it takes up such a huge chunk of the show that the wait and the crowds and the hassle just aren't worth it. The whole part where the globe is out and doing it's thing I'm just like :snore::snore::snore:

I think it would be cool if they brought World of Color to EPCOT, but I know there's really no chance of that happening.

I know I'm totally in the minority when I say that Illuminations isn't very good, but that's just my opinion, and I'm very biased to Wishes. Like I said, to each their own.

PyroKinesis, obviously you're a big fan of Illuminations, and I think we can say that we all respect that, so you don't have to keep posting everytime someone says something bad about it. This is after all a discussion about MSEP going dark while Frontierland gets repaved.

3 minutes of the show? Do you have your ears closed and your back to the show during the opening, and 3/4ths of the end?
I'll tell you what--I'm facing the show, and I think the middle half is boring, the firework-music synchronization is very 20th century (read: bad), and the lasers are highly ineffective. It was a great show. In 1999. In 2011, we can do better. Also, due to its age, the mechanics seem to be getting less and less reliable with time. The score, however, continues to be gorgeous and timeless.

Very well put. I agree. I think I saw a different version of the show way back when, and it was really good. They had all the countries light up at a specific point to a piece of music from the country or something like that. Idk, but it was cool and if nothing else can we have that back?

I look forward to the countdown clock again! ;)

That was the original Illuminations and Illuminations 25.
