Main Street Electrical Parade dark in early 2012

Well, another Spectro-MSEP war.

I, of course, am an MSEP fan. I LIKE the "Hoe-down". I find SpectroMagic "ploddingly magestic." Emphasis on "plodding". It's a darn waltz. Count out the beats sometime.

MSEP has much more pep.

But as many have noted, it all depends on what you saw first, in most cases.

The Main Street Electrical Parade FOREVER!!

It won't because the CADCT parade is short enough that they can use the shortened parade route. They'll have it come out where it usually does go up and circle the hub and then go back the way it came.

Can they really squeeze all the CADCT floats and performers in the hub before going back down Main Street?

I'd feel much better if the MSEP was glowing away forever ... as it was supposed to do at MK in 1991 and DL in 1996.

Get rid of this ancient relic and bring in something new. This IS only the world's No. 1 theme park (I don't need a sarcastic smiley of six, do I?), after all.

^Well, 2021 is right around the corner. Maybe MSEP will have a new float or two by then!

An entirely new parade?! Now that's expecting too much. Everyone knows the life-expectancy of a parade is around 27 years.

...Unless you're in Tokyo!

It's mindboggling because Disney PR (and the Celebration Place Social Media Cabal) love tossing Waltisms out about parks not ever being complete as long as there's imagination left in the world ... I guess that means imagination became extinct in the 1990s, right?

And new floats aren't the answer for a 1972 parade (unless Don Shula's Dolphins are still undefeated and Richard Nixon is still plotting breakins and unless women's reproductive rights are being affirmed:rolleyes:) ... they tried that with the one Tink float that seems to NEVER work right.

You need a completely new parade and then you need to update it 3-4 times (see: TDL EP Dreamlights)!:xmas:

They did it in 2008 (w/ DDCT) when they were replacing the Liberty Square bridge. They cut the Princess float then and put them all on the Castle float. But w/o the Villains in the parade they may not need to make any changes.

Edit: Found the 2008 thread (w/ video) http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=341551

I love the Main Street Electrical Parade and had a trip planned in the fall of 2010, mainly just so I could see it (the trip was canceled last minute and I went to Disneyland instead). I honestly am surprised so many people are SpectroMagic > MSEP. Seeing both several times as a kid, I was always underwhelmed by SpectroMagic and was giddy as could be with MSEP. To me, it just has then better parade music and brighter lights. We all know they've tried to retire it a few times, but the general public always wants it back...and back it comes. Ideally, I'd love to see the two original MSEP's back at both Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom and have them run at the same time, like they used to. But since Magic Kingdom's original version seems to have vanished forever, I don't think that will ever happen. I'm sure your SpectroMagic will be back with upgrades and Disneyland's Main Street will see MSEP again soon.

I'm with you--with all the back and forth here about MSEP vs. Spectro and which we should have, I think we (god forbid) deserve a new freakin parade. If they want it nostalgic, have a new soundtrack with some Spectro undertones, but these parades are absurd in the 2010s...with the lighting technology available nowadays, we could have something incredible if we could get our 20th century entertainment to finally glow away. Dare I say, it'd even be marketable (moreso than a daytime parade--I'd be happy with them doing away with the daytime parade and focusing on an incredible nighttime one, but I know it's sacrilege to suggest the MK not having a daytime and a nighttime parade at the same time--even though they are just fine w/ that at Disneyland). Us stupid tourists would apparently prefer to stake out a seat 2 hours early in 90 degree heat for 10 minutes of crap rather than ride some rides. The Studios' Pixar Pals Countdown to None epitomizes this. "Don't blink or you'll miss it!" Please, lock that up in Disney Vault behind Song of the South.

I personally don't think that MSEP matches the grandeur of WDW's MK. I think it fits in better with the quaintness and charm of DL's MK. Spectromagic has the big sweeping powerful music, and big floats and more lights. MSEP has the cute little bubbly tinkly music that I LIKE, but it just doesn't fit in as well at WDW. I think they should take MSEP to DL (does DL have a nighttime parade right now?) and bring Spectro back to WDW.

With MSEP going dark, maybe they will consider bringing Spectro back to the Magic Kingdom and try MSEP over at DHS. Having a nighttime parade at DHS would be very good for the nights that Fantasmic doesn't perform to keep the crowds there. I know its wishful thinking and dreaming, but it would be nice to have a choice to see a nighttime parade at either MK or DHS. The only concern may be storage of the floats at DHS.

Would be happy to see two night time parades at WDW

Keep Dreaming!

Perhaps....but it would certainly help spread the Guests out more rather than having so many cram into the MK.

To be honest I think there is room for MSEP and a new night time parade... really tired of how Disneyland can have all sorts of seasonal overlays and such while meanwhile here in Florida that seems beyond us. Rotate the parades....switch it up! Have one at one of the other three parks...

As for the relic comment I disagree...I think the MSEP has earned its status as a timeless classic in the same lines as the "iasw", CoP, or the Tiki Room, etc.....

For the record I prefer MSEP over Spectro (though I love Spectro too just not as much) BUT I do not understand why we "Only have to have one" night time parade between four parks....

From my experience the sweeping powerful music of the MSEP electrifies the crowd much more than the music of Spectro ever did.

Really? In the words of John McEnroe......You cannot be serious!

Are we listening to the same music?

Rename MSEP to HEP and move it to DHS. Baroque hoedown would fit in nicely, particularly outside Sounds Dangerous.

Then Spectro and its impressively awesome music can once again thrill guests visiting the first park at Walt Disney World (JMHO).

Seriously, can all of these old parades and give us something new. Just think about all of the new lighting advances that have come about in the past few years with LED technology.

Much more usefulness, less power and heat, safer, and they can be a lot more creative with the float designs.

Guess Disney thinks only illuminations is enPugh nighttime entertainment for the period when both fantasmic! And the electrical parade are going to be dark... Is illuminations enough for the crowds?

Well, Wishes will still be at MK. It's not that unusual actually for the nighttime parade to only run 2-3 times a week during that period anyways. Its not a busy time of year until Presidents Day weekend.
