Maid caught stealing at All-Star resorts

The problem's with gift cards is there is not always a recourse if they are lost or stolen. If you lose a credit card, one phone call can make it all better. If you lose a gift card, you might as well have lost cash in most situations.

Thats true. This has me all thrown off now. I think I'm just locking anything cash/ valuable in the suitcase I guess. I was going to try the Gift Cards for ease instead of cash, but you are right for protection.

Quite honestly, I would not sweat it. I have lost count of the number of stays I have had in Disney resorts (I know it is into 3 figures) and I have never had a single thing come up missing. I have even had tips that I left out remain on the dresser unless I labeled them as such. Use common sense and you should be fine.

I agree, most hotels are no issue at all. I just have never stayed here and now you see this 44 days before I'm headed down. But, most people are good hearted and I'm sure after the Publicity this is getting (I saw it on the news here in CT already), I think they will be even tighter. Hopefully..

I tend to trust Disney in this area more than most other hotels simply because I know how they deal with it. When they can prove that a cast member stole from a guest they are fired and prosecuted. This fact is drilled into their heads and most CMs will go out of their way to be honest.

I've had MANY stays in WDW hotels. I never lock up phones, iPads, laptops or cameras. I once left a pretty large amount of cash sitting on a credenza. None of it was taken. And like a PP, I've had housekeeping even leave their own tip if I don't write a note specifically saying, "For housekeeping."

I think most of the housekeepers are trustworthy. Whether it is innate goodness or fear of being caught, I'm not sure...but I like to think it is the former. :)

What I find even more distressing than learning that Disney hotel maids have access to room safes, is that this particular maid, Bruna Francois, is only 29?!? She looks much older than that in her booking photo.

Me too.

Apparently leaving a tip on the pillow is the universally accepted location. Anywhere else, and there is too much left to interpretation, and housekeeping will most likely not take it.

I tip $5.00 every morning, which I place in sealed envelopes, clearly marked "Mousekeeping".

I prepare the envelopes before leaving home, and the kids (when younger) used to decorate the envelopes with Disney themed stickers.
I then place the stack of envelopes in the bedside table drawer, and pull out the appropriately dated one each morning.

I have never had an issue with Disney housekeeping. I lock up my cash and iPad, and be sure to tip appropriately. I also keep the room fairly tidy. I see no reason to tick off the person who has unmonitored access to my toothbrush.

On another note, it has never made sense to me that I am expected to tip a food server $15-$25 for bringing me my beverages and food, but $5 is actually considered generous for the person who has access to all my valuables.

Wait, did that news reporter really have on a glitter choker necklace? What kind of news station is this :hilarious:
Don't pick on Amaka, please. I like her. :) I swear, that poor girl has no hours. She's on at six in the morning, she's on at night. I always think they drag poor Amaka out of bed half the time, to drive across the city and report on things they could have just told us about from their desks, lol.

Channel Six is not the tabloidy channel. That is Channel 2 -WESH. The morning weather guy, Troy, on channel 6 is my second favorite of all time, after Willard Scott. I highly recommend him for your early-morning weather while in Orlando. :)

I actually watched that same clip when it aired on last night's news and didn't even notice Amaka's necklace. It is shiny!

Something I've always wondered is why do so many people get their room cleaned so often? I mean if I'm staying for 6-7 nights like normal I might get it cleaned once and that's due to the girlfriend wanting it.

I don't change my bed sheets at my house everyday or every 2 days, so why do it at a hotel? I always shower before bed so I'm clean myself when I get into the bed so that's not an issue. They give you towels even if you leave the do not disturb sign on your door so that's not an issue. I don't have a lot of trash in my room so I don't the garbage taken everyday.

I just don't see the need for them to ever come in my room.

-I feel this way about every hotel, not just Disney.

This is so sad to hear, and to think she was really only caught stealing $20....geez! Makes you think twice about having daily service although on my last trip I left out envelopes labeled for mousekeeping each day and twice they went untouched. It's a shame what a few bad apples can do.
