Maid caught stealing at All-Star resorts

Fair enough. Sure.

But do you want this woman to never have a job at your fast food joint either? Must she never be able to feed her children again, even after the judicial system has inflicted whatever punishment society has agreed upon?
It would probably be best, for her and for others, if her next position did not entail handling cash, goods or anything that could be stolen.

I understand that desperate people do desperate things. Maybe she will turn her life around, become an honest and trustworthy person. But for now, it would probably be best if she weren't in a position where she'd be tempted.

I don't know anything about this woman's situation, but let's be honest, not everyone who steals is desperate. Desperation, I can forgive. Thinking your kid needs an X-box like all his buddies, is altogether another.

I too, hope she is able to turn her life around. Similarly, if her thieving was born of desperation, then I hope the appropriate social agency can step in and help. No mother should have to commit crimes to feed her children.

I have been in law enforcement my entire life, and from my experience many thieves do not steal for a need. They steal for other reasons like desire, or compulsion. Most of the shoplifters/thieves I have arrested stole items for reasons other than need, and many of them had the money on them to pay for the item they stole.

I know. I'm related to a couple of them. Thieves, that is.

My husband is related to two cops.

His brother arrested my brother (for theft) three times before his retirement. (The cop's retirement, not my brother's).

Keepin it in the family. LOL I'm the only one in my family to stick with the law enforcement life. I followed my father's footsteps and joined the USAF as a Security Forces officer the day Desert Storm began. However, my father left the USAF SecPol when I was 13 and we moved back to the states where he became a computer technician. Weird. o_O

I see theft every time I go to Disney, but I rarely get the CMs. I only go that far when I am reasonably sure the thief (or thieves) will be staying around for more loot. LOL A store employee must actually see the theft before acting on it so if the person steals and then leaves either I will confront them or let it go. I usually say something to them. That is typically enough to scare them into dropping the item. It would work if anyone said something to them. Most thieves do not like the attention.

This Mousekeeper on the other hand needs to be dealt with. I have always wondered how many times this happens at Disney. We lock all of our stuff away in the safe every day and we check three or four times to be absolutely sure that we did not forget to lock it and take the key.

Thank you for your service.

Hubby desperately wanted to be a cop, but he had a few strikes against him: anti-nepotism rule in our hometown, and one of his brothers was already on the force; at 6' 8", he was deemed too tall for some other forces; and then his vision went for a crap - he clicked in at 20/50, and the cut-off was 20/40 (unaided).

Everything happens for a reason. At least he never had to arrest my brother.

Back on topic - we always rent a car in Disney, so the safe key goes right on that keychain. Carrying two keys around is no big deal. I always charge phones and the iPad over night, while we are in the room, and then during the day, the iPad goes into the safe with our passports and the little bit of cash on hand.

I'm not paranoid (not in my nature), but I also don't leave temptation lying about. I generally feel safer in Disney than anywhere else in the U.S.

I totally agree. Back in the day when my kids were in elementary school, I was very active in our parent/teacher group and served on the executive board for several years. There were certain family events that we would do as fundraisers every year, with very predictable profits. One year one of these events was run by a new volunteer, and when she turned in her report, it was noticeably less profitable than expected, even though it had been well attended. I suspected an issue, but didn't accuse her at the time. I did keep an eye on the situation though and noticed that any time she was involved in handling or counting $$$, there seemed to be shortages. I finally went to our principal and discussed it privately with him. Rather than accuse or embarrass her and her 2 boys, we agreed to assign her to tasks where no money was involved, and eventually instituted a new policy about handling cash at events that took the responsibility (and therefore the temptation) away from all but a select few individuals who had proven experience. To this day, I don't know what her reasons were, nor do I care, but I believe that we did what was best for her, her family, and for us, at the time.

Actually, I find it distressing that somebody's lifelihood should be threatened over $20 dollars. Why is there no anonimity? Employers google their prospective employees.

Yes, yes, she could've not taken the money. But a threatened livelihood stands in no proportion to taking twenty dollars. Half the people in the United States commit a worse crime every day. If only because of speeding.

Because at that age, once a thief always a thief. She has no business working where she can steal again. This isnt like she was a kid being stupid. This is why theft is classified as a crime of moral turpitude. I would rather deal with a drug dealer or murderer over a thief any day of the week.

I don't think I would want to deal with anyone of them.

I'd rather have my money stolen than be killed.

But I'd rather say, "No way, Jose" to the drug dealer than have my money stolen.

Sorry, I sometime bring my feelings from work in to conversations here. Point is I can't stand someone who steals from hard working people.
