MagicBands to be used in place of parking permit paperwork for resort guests

So... if I don't have a ticket to the park (aka some sort of RFID) I can't *pay* to park at MK? Seriously? We just did this last week when we had a breakfast ADR at CR, resort hopped all day and then a dinner ADR at Poly so it made sense to park there. We've been doing non-Park trips with similar types of activities to this and liking them as much or better than normal trips. If that's a thing of the past I'm going to be really upset because we had another one planned for December. Anyone know? I saw a few people asked similar questions but no one has really answered yet.

They will still have pay lanes. But resort guests will be able to use their Magic Bands to take advantage of their FREE parking.

Okay, phew. Thank you. We go back and forth between doing on and off site, but have been doing more off site stays of late. On that note, I wonder if parking at resorts for meals will become an issue. We also parked at AKL another day last week. Other than showing them my ID I wasn't given much hassle.

I don’t’ see what the big deal is you have to stop at the ticket booth anyway I have had my band scanned twice at the MK in the past few months for our AP parking so I do not think it’s a big deal.

Murphy is gonna have a field day with this, The parking plazas will be backed up for MILES, You cannot scan the resort readers without physically removing the MB+ and you have to have the car 18" or less from the read station.

Did Wyle E Coyote come up with this idea!

The fixed readers at resort gates are a pain, but if the parking attendant had a handheld device and could move closer to the car it wouldn't be as bad.

Still going to be slower than a cursory glance and being waved through though.

So Disney has no way to gain any personal information from a cars make/model and plate number, or is the thoughts here that once a car passes thru the toll, where is no way to find the car again whether they paid, didn't pay, or had a magic band?

Disney has their own police force with sworn officers so they have access to all the LE databases even though they farm out most of the actual police WORK like arrests etc to OC Sheriff. The disney police are not to be confused with Disney security.

Way to not exaggerate or anything.

No exaggeration required at BLT over the holidays the guests had so many issues trying to MICKEY-TO-MICKEY from their cars with the readers traffic backed out onto world drive and eventually the guards just opened the gate and LEFT IT OPEN to clear the traffic.

So based on that I don't think it's much of a stretch to see traffic backed up for a mile or so.

Although in that scenario what's the gain over the existing paper permit?

...unless the long-range readers are part of the plan, in which case it will be a LOT faster.

The long range RFID in MB are not suited for that application as they are based on a derivative of BLE and the metal body of cars will tend to shield the sensor as it operates in the 2.4 Ghz ISM band.

The SunPass etc operate at a much lower frequency and as such it easily penetrates the car body.

I don't really think the gain in this is less staff for the parking gates. To me the gain in this more cutting back on people getting free parking by photocopying passes.

I don't see how they would be able to do that anyway, without installing physical scratch-your-car-up gates.

And what to they do if someone has a problem with their MM+ setup? You can't really ask them to stand aside a la FP if they are in a vehicle with others behind them.

It's simple put the license plate # in big letters on the paper pass. You could even put a 2D barcode on the pass so it could be randomly validated with a handheld scanner.

Actually Disney doesn't have its own police force. The only sworn officers are the ones from Orange County Sheriff's Dept that Disney pays the county for.

Law enforcement on property is provided by Orange and Osceola counties as well as FHP.

To further your response, the Resort is on the border of Orange and Osceola Counties. So the portions of the resort in Orange get the Orange County Sherif's protection and Osceola County Sherif's Dept.
