MagicBands to be used in place of parking permit paperwork for resort guests

I'm thinking about how Universities and colleges issue parking fines, but I think most of those are through campus police, but it is still private property violations I think...

Companies pay big money to save a few seconds (or less) if it increases efficiency.
Universities typically require students to register their vehicle make and model plus license plate information. That is how they tie the car to a person and are able to impose penalties.

So Disney has no way to gain any personal information from a cars make/model and plate number, or is the thoughts here that once a car passes thru the toll, where is no way to find the car again whether they paid, didn't pay, or had a magic band?

Disney would have to somehow be given access to state government databases or require people to register their vehicles before entering the property.

Last year we were able to use the magic band to enter our resort through a barrier. The problem was we had to start taking the MB off before driving up as the MB was on the right wrist and the scanner was on the left. We were prepared but others weren't. We didn't experience delays but queues into parks might be an issue.
And we know we could have changed wrists but it would still have been difficult getting the right angle to"touch in" with your arm stuck out a car window.

Totally understand. When returning to Pop, I would purposely wear my band on my left wrist and just reach the reader, and then wait for the slowest gate on the planet to rise up.

Sometimes I thought it would be faster to just bother the guard and have him pass me through.

It would be easy for them to designate a lane or more for hotel traffic, equip both sides of one of the booths with stop lights and a long-range reader (https://atdisneyagain.files.wordpress.com/2014/01/xbr-v4-user-manual.pdf) in advance of the booth at the end of the concrete island. As long as you held your arm up, the band should be powerful enough to be read through the car, and the timing would be such that you would have a green light by the time you reached the booth.

You actually paid for parking? I have never paid for parking regardless if was eligible for free parking or not.

When did I ever say I paid for parking? I am confused . I check in at my resort - they gave me a piece of paper with some WDW stuff on it, my name and check out date to put in my windshield. That precludes me from paying to park. When my vacation is over - parking pass becomes a souvenir. They use MB to replace paper, no more souvenir.

I've been a defender of MM+ but I agree with this completely. This should work fine at the resorts but it's going to be a nightmare at the theme park plazas.

I'll admit that I've enjoyed (for the most part) my interaction with the MagicBands. Mainly, not having to carry a KTTW card and being able to unlock my room door with the band. But unless they find an easy/fast way to manage this at the Theme Park gates or have dedicated lanes for Resort Guests, I'm not sure how they'll be able to execute this.

I wonder if this is a continued crackdown on using the resort parking here to access the Intl Gateway entrance to Epcot? So if your MB doesn't have you as a guest of the resort, and you don't have a ADR... then you don't get it?
My AP magicband lets me into all of the resorts even when not staying on property. :/

I doubt it. The Boardwalk is in some ways considered a public access space akin to Downtown Disney. It's a perfectly legitimate thing to show up at the Boardwalk to walk around, visit Big River, get ice cream, go to Jellyrolls, etc. Some of this goes out the window during conventions or Food and Wine when the parking is needed for other things.

I know a few months back at Coronado I was at one of the side gates and my darn band would not open the gate, fortunately my kid was with me and his MB opened the gate. Pretty sure there will be some growing pains with this implementation.

Ben, It is the last part of your statement they are pointing out. Specifically eligible for free parking or not. It implies to some people that you have possibly skirted paying for parking if you were not staying at a resort.

Otherwise, long range readers are the answer. At POP it was easier to cruise up to the guard, mainly because resort guest lane was broke down for 6 out of 10 days.

Same at AKL, resort and bus lane was constantly out of action.

I'll be thankful the day that I don't need to carry an rfid AP card with me just to get discount.
With this new security method for those with finger print scan issues having their photos added to their MDE account, I wonder if this could be implemented for AP holders for CM to validate the holder....

I still remember the rigamarole you had to though to get in say the Contemporary for dinner even with a reservation--photo ID and named checked off a list and not too early. Even visiting a resort required photo ID and your license plate/tag written down with a stern warning from the guard to not take too long. Nowadays the guards just look at my photo ID and wave me thru. I guess since I am old they feel I am not trying to get free parking.

Next time you go to the MK, look back after passing the parking toll booths, you will see a camera in each lane around the height of where most cars have a license plate...then maybe ask yourself "how in the heck did they find that kid whose parent w/o legal custody kidnapped them and took them to Disney yet they found them amongst 50K guest?"

I wonder if someone is going to sue Disney once they figure out they are being bombarded with an EMF 1000 times greater than they are exposed to using the MB at an attraction/show reader?

Yup, they are at the resorts for entering and exiting. Same plate recognition that police use on those cameras attached to the trunks of their cruisers.

Because the bands are active, it doesn't need to be energized externally in order to be read from afar. Only the near proximity functions are activated with an external EMF. It's also all been certified by the FCC.
