MagicBand+ announced

They didn't hype it! It's a minor product upgrade with a minor price increase with a minor marketing campaign. All of the hype came from us!
Disney constantly crowing that "later in the celebration you can interact with the Fab 50 statues" on the Parks Blog isn't hyping?

Silly me for expecting "interaction" to mean actually interacting with the statues in a meaningful way (such as augmented reality or special lighting or... something!) instead of a short sound clip playing, I guess.

Sorry I should clarify. There is an augmented reality segment for some of them via the Play Disney app. But the status don't physically do a nothing beyond play the sound.

Correct. They also announced the return of noodles at Ohana on the Parks Blog. The Parks Blog isn't hype. Advertising Galaxy's Edge with a stormtrooper takeover of Monday Night Football is hype.

There's no reason to believe that any such thing is an issue. ONE tweet says the batteries are dying quickly, and that tweet came from a user who was doing nothing but heavy MB+ use.
I fully expect that most people won’t have the extremely short battery life that the user in question experienced. All the same, TWDC claims that they last 1-3 days on a charge. That is a wide range, and depending on usage and charging frequency, some folks may have their band die in the middle of day 2 or 3. Having a low battery mode could help with things in those cases.

They literally did the thing you're mad at them for not doing.
The screenshot you posted doesn’t show a “low battery mode” specifically as an option. What I’m thinking of would be enabled automatically once your battery drops below a certain level, not multiple settings that you’d have to manually disable.

Is that something that could be resolved with a software update?

It’s way to early to know anything about battery life yet. Give it a week and we’ll have hundreds of reviews and data points, for all we know the couple hour report was not charged or they just got a lemon.

they just play a small audio clip when someone with a MagicBand+ waves at them. It isn't anything elaborate.
It might not be elaborate but I’m excited for it. I saw a clip of stitch earlier and it’s a fun feature, I’m equally as excited about the fact it’ll connect to play parks and will track which statues we’ve waved at.

I did. Ordered 3. 😉
We ordered ours for our January trip this morning. We have one from every trip we’ve done, they are a relatively cheap souvenir.

I think part of the problem with the hype is the moniker- Magicband+ Sounds like something pretty special. If it were just the Magicband 3 with periodic fun upgrades, I think there would be far lower expectations.
