Looks like they basically punted on theme; the fonts/signage is really the only thing that even nods at it. This would fit in perfectly at Disney Springs -- it's not badly designed in a vacuum, it's just bland and mostly unthemed.

Between this and the awful menu, there's no reason for me to bother going inside now. Very clear why Steve said he didn't think people would be too happy.

Would have liked more period light fixtures and maybe some more decor on the blank walls. I think this will be a much more enjoyable experience to shop/work in for guests/cast overall.

Would be better with different tilework wherever the herringbone pattern appears, and I don’t quite understand the low shelves haphazardly sitting behind that one counter (maybe they’re in the process of being moved?), but I think it’s generally perfectly fine otherwise and pretty consistent with the architectural style it had before.

It will definitely be easier for people to shop there, but for me, the biggest draw of Disney stores and dining is the theme. Otherwise I could just buy it online (or at a Target). When they strip out most or all of the theming, I no longer have any interest in going inside.

So many of their recent moves have leaned heavily into generic modern American design unless they're building something modeled on a specific IP. I don't think anyone is going to look at this new Confectionary and think evokes a turn of the century (20th century!) candy shop. There was a candy store at the Battery in Atlanta (I think it closed) that looked very similar to this new design, even down to the color scheme.
