Oh yay, dozens of tubes of candy, straight out of Vegas, or any M&M store.
Or straight out of Willy Wonka? There are examples both fantastical and mundane of this trend, and there’s a reason it’s a trend in the first place. The visual of limitless colorful candy is an enticing one. Frankly, this whole thing of taking a dig at shops on property for having similarities to other shops isn’t much of a dig at all when some of them are nailing an aesthetic that would be perfectly appropriate depending upon where you are in the parks (Apple, Uniqlo, Lolli & Pops, etc.). If the execution falls short, then it’s a problem, but I’m not going to flip because the candy shop looks like a candy shop. I’ll reserve judgment until full views are available.

It's supposed to look like an early 20th century candy shop, not a modern candy shop. I'm not passing judgment yet because we haven't seen the whole thing, but the candy wall full of M&Ms and Skittles is definitely out of place.

One of the worst examples of this was the old Ample Hills at the Boardwalk. It wasn't remotely in theme for the area; it just looked like an ice cream store you'd walk into in a suburban strip mall.

Similar tubes already encircled multiple displays in the original shop. It's not much of a departure. The copper "factory" aesthetic of certain parts of the old confectionery were also not period-appropriate.

Making mistakes in the past isn't an excuse to continue making them -- the renovation was an opportunity to fix them and make the place look great.

Sure, it just seems all the nail biting about things re-appearing that were already there is a little ridiculous at times. People are actively looking for things to dislike, like a drop ceiling that hasn't changed or candy tubes that already lined multiple point-of-sale displays. I can appreciate wanting things to improve and being a bit meh at the result not being a significant step up, but there's already an attitude of it being a significant step down instead of a lateral move when we've only seen a quarter of one wall and a small fraction of the floor.

I don't think anyone is actively looking for things to dislike. It's just that things like the the candy wall and the flooring are all we've seen so they attract scrutiny.

That's probably unfair, but that's what you're going to get if your marketing decides to release pictures of just those areas.

A lot of them apparently -

That's incredibly disappointing, but I guess that's why they're calling it the "Home of Mars Candy Treats".

Putting M&Ms on something makes it worse, not better. They're the bottom of the barrel candy with horrendous "chocolate". I actually like Skittles to an extent, but they're not something I really want in/on baked goods. None of those look even remotely good to me. They're also not visually appealing -- they don't even look professional; they just look like someone scattered some Skittles or M&Ms on top of something that already existed (or into the batter).

I wonder if this is why Steve said he didn't think people were going to be very happy instead of anything related to the interior design. Or maybe it's both!

Yeah, not terribly into pasting standalone brand candies onto other things. Hopefully the “plain” versions are all still available.

Sugar cookie "pie" involving skittles? Gross!
I agree. These actually sound good to me:

There are a lot of vanilla things with Skittles. Maybe if they are really stale, it will work? Seems like Fruity Pebbles to me. Kids will love them?

Every single one of those sounds bad to me, but I guess that's to be expected as someone who really hates M&Ms. Also not really a fan of putting Snickers in/on cookies or cupcakes. The vanilla cupcake would sound better if they left the Skittles off.

More importantly, all the Mars branding makes the stuff sound cheap (at least to me). I don't think many people see M&Ms etc. and think it's going to be a high quality product.

You definitely have to like Snickers and/or M&Ms. I actually like peanut butter and caramel M&Ms but I’m basic. I just would rather see these things at DHS, which I wish still had Candy Cauldron.

Regardless, this won’t spoil my vacation. I’m sure we will mobile order something and just leave. Or avoid it altogether and get a Plaza sundae. No big deal. i just wish there were truly special treats here like they have at Disneyland.

I can't find the full menu, but the screenshots I've found look like they have M&Ms, Skittles, or Snickers in almost every single product. That's really too bad.
