Magic Kingdom not as much patriotic anymore?

I'm not complaining - I've discovered it terminates their attempt to proselytize me. In the past, I tried to politely tell them I'm not interested, but some people can be so persistent. When I mentioned I was Catholic, they looked at me like I'd just sprouted horns and a tail. Needless to say, they fled shortly after that....guess I was beyond saving, lol.
Interesting. I've not experienced that. The only door to door we got were kind when I said I was happy in my religion. They didn't seem to push too hard. Stinks when people cannot just play nice.

Years ago, one of my close friends/neighbors gave me a book about 'why Catholics need to be saved'. She was so pure in her intentions.. I thanked her, but told her that I'm doing just fine. There's a church in Ft Lauderdale, Calvary Chapel..there's more than 1 but that specific one had a man called Pastor Bob.. so many people flocked to this church, absolutely adored the pastor, and made it a mission to 'save' everyone that they can. I've been stuck in an elevator with a stranger encouraging me to visit Calvary, or attend a bible group.lol
Catholics are so different than other "Christian" groups in that respect.

I will never forget standing on main street in 1976 and watching the fireworks and listening to the patriotic music. It sure made me proud of America and it was a magical uplifting feeling. Will never forget that experience. Wish it was still a part of Disney.

Do you still watch the EWP? I honestly have the same feeling every time the flags are all lit up.

Huh? This is America...if someone doesn't like what we have to offer here they can go back to wherever they came from. I know when I visit foreign countries they are proud of their roots and display it to great magnitude.

I'm not sure what is wrong with the young people of this country being so guilty of being a proud American. I have had many family members give their life for this country and I would have gladly signed up myself if it wasn't for a health issue denying me that right. It really ****es me off to see someone born in 1990's who really doesn't have a clue, but speaks from the mind of the teachers who taught them otherwise!

It's not hip to be patriotic. You need a healthy dose of loathing for your own country.

There was a full 4th of July fireworks display last night at Magic Kingdom, and I assume again tonight. I am an active Airman in the USAF, so I hope nobody accuses me of not being patriotic. But if anybody is upset about the lack of America-centric theming at WDW, they may just be too quick to get upset about things.

Thank you for your service! Happy 4th!

Some forget that the 1st Amendment means not only freedom of religion, but freedom from religion, i.e., don't push your faith in my face, I'm perfectly fine with mine, thank you.....

Where are you stationed? My brother spent nearly all 4 years of his duty stationed at the SAC base near Omaha. All he could talk about was how FLAT the area was...

Side note, our local Cedar Fair park has free admission for all active and retired military July 1st- July 4th, and their families get heavily discounted tickets. I think that's pretty neat.

At the end of the day we all worship God no matter how we view him. Some ways we might not agree with but its not our place to judge but only to defend ourselves is anyone gets hostile over it.

I'm not that young, I was born in the 70s. I'm not trying to be hip as someone else said as well. I'm just not proud of the direction this country has gone. I'm pretty sure I made it clear why as well.

That said I do not get the same sense of people being "proud of their foreign roots and display it to a great magnitude" that you do. I think our patriotism is significantly higher than most others out there.

I think people are proud of their heritage - they just show it in ways that are not xenophobic or nationalistic. I doubt if Irish Americans, including those many generations removed from Eire, don't burst with pride on St. Paddy's Day or get a tear in their eye when someone sings Danny Boy or they hear a fiddle, bodhran and whistle being played....

But those are Americans. I was speaking of other countries, not those in the US. Also not speaking of support during a world sports event either. That would be a whole other thing, but just every day after living in Europe, for example, I don't get that "Proud to be German" (or whatever) that we have here.

Oh, ok, I understand. I've only visited the UK (during Wimbledon), so I'm not familiar like you are.

For poops and giggles, I took the test given to those wanting to be US citizens, since we will have many new citizens today. My congratulations and welcome to all those who will become Americans today!

In addition to the expected questions on civics (how many branches of government, what's the supreme law of the land, etc.), there were questions on US history. The test was easy, got 100%. The sad thing? Apparently, US high school students have problems with the test - one third fail. And those wanting to be citizens? 97% pass with flying colors.

The issue isn't the newer generation or so called Millennials, we have faced plenty of issues that YOUR generation has not, (Student Debt, COMPLETE job automations, the Great Recession, Climate change, ect). It's insanely irresponsible and childish act to blame/scapegoat a entire generation for your perceived issues.

Disney and Disney parks are a interest i and many more hold, i'm GLAD that Disney has branched out and has marketed it self internationally and has proven success with it.

I do not hate living in America nor do i not respect it, it's just refreshing to go somewhere like Epcot or Animal Kingdom and have somebody elses culture in your face for 5 minutes instead of the constant media or politics of America.

Just out of curiosity, how old were you when the market crashed in 2001? Did you have a large portfolio at that time?
What about the next crash? And then the housing crash? Were you a home owner at that time, in a home who's value decreased by 100-200 thousand or more?

I'm not saying these questions in any kind of rude way, just curious based on your comment...from what I know most millennial's luckily avoided those years, due to age at the time.
