Couldn't ask for better marketing than a full-length commercial ;)

But with that said this could turn out interesting, here's hoping for the best

Don't worry, there will be plenty of downright hate posted here before a squeek of information is leaked.

Naturally, a large amount of the members of these boards are quite afraid of anything novel or differrent than traditional Disney.

This often leads to instant prejudice at the drop of the most barebones piece of information

I guess that's an unexpected consequence of creating such a powerful brand

Keep an open mind people!

I don't think it will happen any time soon. Rumors of the Jungle Cruise movie have been around since the first Haunted Mansion movie came out. That has been a while and we have yet to see anything on Jungle Cruise: The Movie yet.

This is true, come to think if it the 20k remake mentioned in one of the articles has been on and off as well

Yeah, I don't know about this.

On the one hand, all the thematic variety the park offers...from ghosts to pirates to the tropics to an abandoned mining town to outer freakin' space...just begs for some kind of epic fantasy adventure treatment that somehow ties it all together coherently. I think the best way to approach it would be a mix between Indiana Jones and LOTR, kind of a light-hearted adventure set in a massive world with plenty of time to wander around in the different atmospheres.

The worst way I think to approach this would be to plop a group of "average" folks in the park and have Something Go Horribly Wrong. Without a strong story, all the powerful thematic elements MK brings just become background noise in some over-wrought screwball family comedy or teenage mystery flick.

The fact that it sounds like this movie would be literally set in the park, and would include characters like Mickey...and that it's being compared to "Kingdom Keepers" and "Night at the Museum" (neither of which I cared for)...has my hopes considerably low at this point. All that stuff just screams "grab bag" film where they try to cram as many references in as possible.

(Is that enough premature hate for ya, Jimbo?) ;)

Could be fun.
I hope that if it does include Mickey or any of the other classic characters, they'd be animated in hand-drawn 2D Roger Rabbit style. I'm sure they'd be CG though. And I'm sure the whole thing will be in 3D.

It would be kinda neat if they name-dropped a few Imagineers somewhere. I doubt they'd have an actor portraying Walt (heaven forbid they resurrect him in CGI), but I hope that his "presence" would be felt somewhere in the movie.

I wonder if it would actually be set in The Magic Kingdom. I know the name of the movie is MK, but Disneyland seems like the more logical choice.

I agree.

They could always go the route of "Adventures in the Magic Kingdom" for NES, where they say it's MK but the park looks a heck of a lot like DL to people who know the difference.

Just please don't star:

Eddie Murphy
Ben Stiller
Seth Rogen
Jonah Hill
or especially
Adam Sandler

Steve Carell = yes, please.

or even better... Tina Fey!

It really too early to tell what the reaction to this movie will be until we see a script or trailer. A movie about the park might be a neat idea. I actually wrote a script a few years ago revolving around a road trip with three friends, one being a huge Disney nerd. It wasn't completely about Disney but had some Disney winks and nods in it (including an Adventurers Club reference) and the friends did end up at Magic Kingdom in the end. But I doubt they'd want to pick up my film, unless they want Disney's first official R-rated film:p

As much as I like Carrell, I think casting "name" actors for this would just be more cause for pessimism. I'd prefer an unknown cast.

You have no idea how long it too me to figure out why IASW was so far north and why Space Mountain was so far south.

There was a book I read called "Utopia" by Lincoln Child quite a few years back. Here's a description:

"Despite its remote location in the Nevada desert, the Utopia theme park receives 65,000 visitors daily. They never dream their lives may be in any real danger. However, some of the self-programming robots are becoming erratic, so park administrators quietly bring the robots' brilliant creator from the East Coast to fix the problem before it gets any worse. Dr. Andrew Warne brings his daughter, for he doesn't believe there is anything wrong with his creations. But on the day of their arrival, a mysterious band of ruthless criminals infiltrates not only the park, but its computerized systems. The unknown terrorists appear to control everything, from the simplest robot to the most dangerous ride. And if their demands aren't met, thousands of innocent park-goers will be killed. --Cynthia Ward --This text refers to the Hardcover edition." (From Amazon Reviews)

Anyways, when I read it, the theme park technologies and themes brought Disney to mind. It would be interesting if an action/suspense/thriller plot like this would center on the safe, family-friendly Magic Kingdom, but at the same time, it would be pretty awesome.
