Magic Kingdom MOVIE?

Whew, I'm not the only one. I never finished the third, but the second was a beating. Sneaking past the tigers was nuts.

That whole hologram bit is just ridiculous IMO. I just can't get into it. And the main characters are kind of meh. I can't seem to care what happens to them, because they have such unmagical adventures. It's like the author is all hung up on the Kingdom's technical wizardry, but forgets the real magic, the ambience that makes the Kingdom special. Too bad. There's a germ of a good idea in the books' premise, but I just don't think it's executed very well.

Tina is an acquired taste. Watch 30 Rock. You will fall in love with her. I used to not like her, but gave it a try :)

And Steve Carell being anti-funny? The guy is a sketch comedy genius on The Office and in just about any media appearance.

But whatever! You take Adam Sandler. His one liners are hilarious and so refreshing. :dazzle:

We need a 30 Rock Disney World episode special! Show everyone here who's the queen of comedy.

Oh my god. That is BRILLIANT. I'd totally watch that! :sohappy:

I couldn't get past the first book.

Agreed! I just didn't find much of it magical or believable for that matter.

I agree completely. I picked up the first book with high hopes, but found it far too literal in its treatment of things like AA's, and too sparse on atmospheric details, to feel anything like what I feel in MK from it. In fact, I think your description helped me hit on things I disliked but never quite pinpointed before now!

Right from the beginning, when Pearson describes a pirate AA clanking and whirring toward the kids...instead of an actual pirate that might have somehow materialized...I had a feeling the book was in trouble. I never shook the feeling.

Kingdom Keepers is one big reason I don't like the idea of having a movie where characters literally have adventures inside the park. The book is too aware that its own setting is a theme park...instead of using the themes themselves to inspire adventures. At least, that's my opinion of the first one. I haven't bothered with the sequels.

Again, take more of a Kingdom Hearts/Epic Mickey approach to it and present the Magic Kingdom and the other parks as a place where the worlds of Disney mesh together. Actually create that grand unified Disney universe that was only hinted at in House of Mouse.

It's just my thought, but I feel like KH would be too "busy" for a story to be told in a couple hours. There's so much backstory/mythology there. Plus the thing is so packed with characters that I think it comes back to the issue of who gets on screen and has their story told. It might work if they could trim it back a good bit.

(Plus I can't shake the feeling that this would work a lot better with fresh characters...but that's probably my own private soapbox, and it sounds like if the movie gets made, Mickey's going to be there.)

I said in that style, not an exact adaptation. Start fresh with this new take on the Disneyverse. We don't need to get into hour long monologues about light, darkness and nobodies.

Personally, I could see this plotline working the best. I also included casting suggestions just for fun.

A family travels to Florida to go to the Magic Kingdom. They end up trapped inside just after park close. A friendly third shift custodian warns them that the rides come alive after the park closes. Suddenly the park is taken over by Maleficent (Angelina Jole) and it's up to the family to stop her. In order to summon Mickey Mouse to defeat her, they must gather the idols of each land (excluding Toontown Fair). These idols (Vinylmation figurines?) are scattered throughout the park and they must venture into each land and encounter many hazards to gather them all. Along the way they add members to their team including the Timekeeper from Tomorrowland (Voiced by Robin Williams), a rough and tough cowboy from Frontierland (Owen Wilson), a Jungle Cruise Skipper (Sam Rockwell) and a ghost butler from the Haunted Mansion (Michael Caine). The final battle scene would take place in Fantasyland, which is guarded by Meleficent's henchmen.

It could work out pretty well if done this way and would not really throw in a whole bunch of already established characters besides Jole as Maleficent, if that movie gets made.

^ I hereby amend my "don't cast known actors" suggestion to allow Michael Caine into this movie.

Also excluded from the rule are Gary Sinise and Ian McKellan...roles to be determined later. :)

Owen Wilson as a cowboy, however... :lookaroun

Seems like a lot of folks downing Kingdom Keepers, I thought the books were geared toward a young teen market? I'm not really sure they were written for the avid adult Disney goer. My 12 year old has read I & II and enjoyed them. I'm guessing a movie adaptation wouldn't be targeting adults either??

the kingdom keepers books are grounded in reality. thats what ridley pearson was going for. he wanted to have the AAs not real people becuase it would make more sense if they came alive instead of haveing real people enter the parks.

and the idea about the family getting stuck in the park at night sounds a lot like kingdom keepers just with a family instead of teenagers and more charcters from the lands added.

I think a Kingdom Hearts movie could work only if they dropped the whole traveling to the different Disney movie worlds part. Simply impossible to include.

In other words, Disney's Night at the Museum.

The World Border rule just holds back the franchise in general.
Epic Mickey on the other hand is a far more feasible Disney crossover to translate into a medium like film. All in one world (which itself is based on Disneyland) populated by a cross-section of characters from all parts of Disney history.

Actually, I would TOTALLY go see that! Especially with Michael Cain and Angelina Jolie as Malificent
But where do we put Johnny Depp? XD

Funny, this is the perfect example of what I hope it DOESN'T become. I would hope the actors are more wallpaper than playing a game of family bonding through strange situation.

I just lost all respect for you...jk

Steve Carell is the anti-funny and Tina Fey is not funny either....Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen are much much better than them both

Oh good I'm not the only person who thinks Steve Carell is as overrated as "Avatar". :)

I like Tina Fey, am pretty neutral about Seth Rogan (never seen any of his films), but out of that whole list if i was going to pick one, it would definitely be Adam Sandler. You know, 'cause he's actually funny. :)
