Magic Kingdom going FP+ only on 1/14/14

For the corresponding Tuesday in 2013, touringplans.com reported MK's crowd level as 1 out of 10. They reported Standby lines of 36 minutes for Peter Pan and 17 minutes for Space Mountain, two of the longest waits.

This year, touringplans.com is projecting a 5 out of 10 with longer waits. Not sure why since the Marathon proceeded the weekend before in both 2013 and 2014.

Since FP+ does not add people, it shouldn't increase lines overall, just change who is standing is what line.

Onsite guests will have first access but are limited to 3 selections. Crowds should be light and even offsite guests should be able to get 3 good FP+ selections that day.

Please let us know your experience. Since you intend on arriving at MK in the evening, you experience selecting FP+ will be particularly interesting.

I think lots will be interested in reading your post on what the first day of "FP+ only" was like at MK. :)

Good observations. I am using FP+ at Epcot that day so I will not be able to use FP+ that evening at MK. I had planned on using paper FP so I will be stuck in the standby lines.

Uh huh...I probably personally myself never did more than 3FP's a day, but they might be 2 at one park and 1 at another....so I already didn't like the new system back in November but at least I could grab a paper FP then. My daughter though, she could do 6-9 FP's a day touring a park(s) and she was double dipping in November and talking about how she sure hoped they kept the FP kiosks at least another year....

I can accept the limit of 3 per park but not being able to hop and have access to the system sucks. It devalues the hopper/APs

FP+ has 3 major drawbacks:
  1. Limited to 3 per day.
  2. Limited to 1 theme park.
  3. Limited to tiers at 2 theme parks (Epcot & DHS).
IMHO, the worst limitation is the last one. Frankly, Epcot and DHS don't have more then 3 attractions that are worth FastPassing. Telling me I have to pick between Soarin' and Test Track, or Toy Story Mania and Rock 'n Roller Coaster is basically telling me that 2 of WDW's 4 theme parks should not even offer FP+.

Disney needs to build more rides. :grumpy:

However, back to the point of this thread, MK has plenty of good attractions that are worth FastPassing. :)

Rats! This would occur during my trip. Luckily i have secured my fp+ reservations and will use emh thst morning on the 17. I hate lines so i will say if i wait for hm, small world, cop, btmr more than i have typically waited in January i will be livid.

Why, oh why will this "CoP has FP+" thing never go away? It doesn't have FP+, it won't have FP+, yet people seem like to keep using it as an attraction that will be impacted greatly by FP+...

Hello Rob - I am well aware that COP does not have FP nor FP+ - it was a sarcastic joke.

I saw a few situations today where MB users had some sort of trouble at the check-in points. Either they got the dreaded "blue Mickey" or their kids were young and couldn't hold their Magic Band to the machine properly. Both held up the lines, and I have to say that the folks who got the blue Mickey (either they were at the wrong ride, wrong time, or didn't have a FP+ for that ride to begin with) all spoke English as a second language and the CM had trouble explaining the problem to them (or they pretended not to understand).

Disney is smart to do this rollout in a slow time, but I think it's going to be frustrating for guests and CMs for a long time.

Not after the legacy machines are gone by the end of the month....unless you're talking about FP+. I didn't think CMs could use FP+ yet.
Cast members and their guests using their main entrance pass are eligible for FP+ in the parks that are no longer using legacy FPs. They will get them the same as day guests do...at the kiosks on day of. Eventually MEPs will be allowed to be linked to MDX accounts but a date for that hasn't been set yet.

I'm sorry. But, this is going to be absolutely horrible. Attempted to get FP's at DAK today. After waiting in line for 20 minutes, scanning my Magic Band four times (twice on iPad, twice on kiosk), it brought up members of my party.. from a November trip. They explained they would only be able to hand out FP's to those in my party who are present. Since we aren't time travelers, I said, "This doesn't seem to be working at all. Thanks anyways."

It's absolutely too late to walk back from this. But, you'd think they would work out all the kinks at DAK first before taking away Legacy at MK- the busiest park!

I agree - this seems very risky to do at MK. But it is also a slow period - though I expected the next park to be HS or EP. FP+ is a horrible thing

Sorry to sound like a complete dullard but I don't get FP+ at all. If I don't get it, how does some 70-year old Grandmother visiting from Columbia even come close to understanding it?!

So, being the complete moron that I am, as Annual Passholders (with the traditional credit card style pass), how do we get a FP+? I know the plan is to get APs on-line later this year but what do we do until then?

I think the demographics of WDW has changed substantially since in the 80s and 90s - I remember a lot of older grandparents with their younger grandchildren; and lots of international visitors; and middle/upper class people. Today, the demographics of WDW has changed and I see more younger families and lots of groups. I too question how does an older person even want to create a MM account and organize FP+

Perhaps the older folks won't care about all that anyway...people watching, strolling, shopping, and eating can be just as fun and much more relaxing. How many senior citizens go on Space Mountain anyway? :P

Cast Members are officially allowed to use their MEP for FP+ at DAK only. MK will be included beginning on the 14th. DHS and EC will be following before the end of January. CMs cannot pre-engage unless park tickets are linked to their MDX account and they have stayed at least once at a WDW property since that resort's rollout date.

We have the same passes as you and as of January 1st we have full access to FastPass+ on the My Disney Experience website and App.

We can book 3 passes a day for every day of the year.
