You make it sound like a war, Steve!:ROFLOL:

It might as well be...:lookaroun

LOL well for those of us who follow Disney so closely, things like this are interesting. It's like weather forecasters who like extreme weather. Extreme crowds at Disney are something out of the ordinary, and are an intersting indicator of lot's of things.

I was just thinking to myself:

I wonder how they initiate a Phase 4 closure. There must be dozens/hundreds/thousands of people in line for dozens of different entrypoints when they decide to initiate the closure, so; besides the fact that they obviously have to either let the entirety of a family/group in, or make the members that have already gone in leave to be with the rest of the members, I wonder how it is started...

In my head it goes a little bit like this: Big red rotating lights are lowered from the ceiling above the turnstiles while a siren blares and gates slowly lower from the ceiling to close all entrances. Mothers slide just below the lowering gates to be with their already-in-the-park children, and reach back to get their bag/purse/indiana jones style hat just before the bars reach the ground.

I imagine they start at the toll gates for the parking lots and road signs leading to MK. Then announcements on the ferry boats and monorails. Then, finally, at security. By the time guests get to the actual turnstiles, they should've heard it at least half a dozen times. But, on a day like today, I would imagine that it takes at least an hour to get thru the toll gates and up to the turnstiles! Not my idea of a fun day in the parks.

Oh my god...

Ridiculous. I can't even imagine what a phase 4 closure would be like I don't think I want to. Even as a Disney die-hard, I think I'm absolutely terrified of being in that level of madness.

An hour wait for FOOD?! That's crazy. Unthinkable. How is that fun in any way? Oh wait, it's not.

I understand that it's the week of Easter, but why are there so many people there? This hasn't happened in previous years... could WWYC ACTUALLY be a working promotion?

Either that, or a lot of people are celebrating birthdays today

Did Epcot hit a phase 4 on new years in 1999?

It seems like there is some ambiguity with these phased closings, because it seems like they keep increasing the maximum capacity for the phases. EPCOT supposedly reached 83,000 this past New Year's Eve, which was supposedly a new attendance record for the park, but somehow they've never gotten past Phase 2?

That's why this is a PHASE 4...... there are not many people in line for the different entry points at this point - the other 3 phases have reduced that number considerably... can someone state the 4 phases???

Based on previous experience, guests will be looking at 1.5 to 2 hour plus on all the big stuff, 1 hour waits at counter service, and in excess of an hour to get from one side of the park to the other.

Not to mention probably at least an hour, two, or possibly more just to get back to your car...

I'm looking forward to seeing how the theme park attendance numbers will be for 2009. (If 2008's numbers ever come out:rolleyes:)

I hope somebody will also post pictures if they were in the park today.

Phase 1: Guests with MYW base tickets, one day tickets, guests with no admission, and CMs using a main gate are turned around at the Auto Plaza.

Phase 2: Only resort guests, AP/PAP, Park Hoppers, guests re-entering the same park admitted, ONLY if using a taxi or resort transportation. (Auto Plaza is closed)

Phase 3: Only resort guests and AP/PAP admitted. (Only resort transportation)

Phase 4: Closed to all guests. (No incoming transportation)

All the schools hear have spring break in April...not colleges, but school districts. Here on Long Island, half the schools are closed this week and about half are closed next week.

I am curious about that also. Do the numbers just keep expanding from year to year. What is the true capacity of each park.
What is capacity for the Magic Kingdom at a Phase 4?

Thanks
That's the big question. A phase 4 means nothing to me without a figure to back it up.

Thanks Master Yoda. We now know what each of the phase numbers represent. Now all we need is an actual number of guest it takes for each of these phases to be declared.

So, is 2009 going to go down as the year of lost revenue in the parks, massive layoffs and reorganization...

...and record park attendance?
