Thanks for posting these. Whether it was day or night, those trees couldn't have complemented the castle more perfectly.

Those trees also helped with sightlines from LS. Now you can see the Contemporary and TT. Sad. But on the other hand, their removal was absolutely necessary for the castle shows of today. If only they'd extend the projections to the back of the castle to relieve the congestion and in this pipe dream replant those beautiful trees.

the others would be IllumiNations and Fantasmic, just as much fountain shows as anything
Their main is still not focused solely on fountains, hence why they are not considered full fountain shows.
The fountains are a fraction, not the whole show.

unpopular opinion:

I don't really think fountains add much to the experience of the castle shows when seeing them in person.
They look great on pictures though.
Probably because the mayority of people get "tunnel vision" when expectantly get fireworks and shows (trying to focus on the center and ignoring the sides.. which means you will probably ignore the water effects )

Alright. 50 things for the 50th.

Let's assume they are counting things starting in 2019. It makes sense. Its what i would do. The amount of construction, quiet reopenings from smallish scale refurbs, event openings of new attractions, and everything else... It would be crazy anf impractical for 50 things to be in one year unless they are counting just bathroom cleaning and everything.

So, 50 things spread across 2019, 2020, and 2021. Let's count up what those might be based on the info we have and rumors and safe assumptions.

  1. Tron Coaster
  2. Club 33 (hopefully only counted more than once for all four parks)
  3. Thunder Mountain Third Lift Hill Effects (rumors pointed towards this being postponed to the 50th)
  4. Hatbox Ghost addition (rumored that a second was built when the built Disneyland's and just stored in a warehouse for the 50th)
  5. Small World adding Disney characters (uuuuuggghhhhh fine. It's rumored)
  6. Carousel of Progress update (insiders say it's happening as relatively major)
  7. People Mover update (probably small, new scene or two)
  8. Speedway update (tronify it)
  9. New nighttime parade
  10. New fireworks show (new projection show at the very least)
  11. Jungle Cruise Update tied to movie (rumored for if the movie does well)
  12. New Spaceship Earth Update (just my assumption, but it feels like a new narrator is overdue. And while I'd hope for a new descent, just updating what you do with the screens to be less terrible could be enough for now)
  13. GotG Coaster
  14. Wonders of Life rumored replacement
  15. Space Restaurant
  16. Pixar Short Film Replacement (even just new Pixar/Disney shorts. Don't even need to make anything actually new if they don't want to)
  17. Living will the Land Update
  18. Circle of Life Replacement (assumed)
  19. Seas with Nemo Update
  20. Rat Ride
  21. Poppins Ride (or whatever in the UK)
  22. Brazil Pavilion
  23. New China Film
  24. Refreshed France Film
  25. IllumiNations new show
  26. Star Wars Land (yes I do think they'd count the land itself as a separate item from the things in it and if Star Wars Land really is on the level of Potter or Cars Land in terms of scale of theming it's arguably justified)
  27. Battle Escape
  28. Millennium Falcon
  29. Cantina Restaurant
  30. Star Wars Resort
  31. Mickey Minnie Railroad
  32. Launch Bay Replacement
  33. Lightning McQueen show
  34. Replacement for one of the current shows at Hollywood studios
  35. Fantasmic Update (rumored? Assumed? Not sure)
  36. Path of the Jedi Replacement
  37. Tower of Terror update (nothing too crazy probably)
  38. New HUB stage show in Hollywood Studios
  39. Star Tours Replacement (kind of a long shot to be so soon. But presumably will happen eventually, why not in 2021? Should be a relatively quick retheme once the video is made)
  40. Yeti being fixed (brought up again by Rhodes recently. The 50th would be perfect)
  41. Primeval Whirl replacement (whatever that winds up being)
  42. Nemo theater replacement (if that does still happen)
  43. River of Light update/replacement
  44. Tough to Be a Bug Replacement (my assumption. It's not popular or beloved. And a 3D movie is easy enough to replace cheaply and quickly)
  45. New Monorails
  46. New Swan and Dolphin Tower
  47. New Resort
  48. New Slide at Blizzard Beach (assumed. It's way overdue especially with Volcano Bay)
  49. NBA Experience at Disney Springs
  50. New Cirque Show at Disney Springs

So, that's 50 without very few assumptions not based on things currently rumored and being discussed and no real stretching. If you could starting in 2019 at least which, as I said, is only practical for 50 things.

Any chance that that the 50th anniversary will carry over for three years? At least conceptually. 2021 MK/WDW 50th, 2022 Epcot 40th and 2023 100th for TWDC

Also would love to see 50th updates to CBJ and Tiki Room. Small changes would make them must dos for more ppl. Helping capacity.

Before anyone storms in here and accuses you of filling a list with fantasy, I'll just add that this list could also easily be rolled back to 50 new things since the 45th. Several Pandora editions, Mission Space, Rivers of Light, the UP show, new Pirates scene, Toy Story land additions, the gondola, a new Star Wars scene from Episode 9 and an Innoventions overhaul can basically remove all of the guess work from your above list. For the usual *suspect* debbie doubters.

Yes, I'd be highly disappointed if they rolled this all the way back to the 45th, but one complains slightly less when trying to build a list of 45 things that opened between the 40th and 45th....

Contrary to all of that I'd hope the list is built from 2020 onwards. Yes a lot of substantial stuff drops off, but I look forward to the less substantial stuff that Disneyland did. Things like Emporium windows, a one-off animatronic for a ride, a point or two for 50th decor or the castle overlay, 50th show packages to a night entertainment like Hollywood Studio fireworks. It's really not hard for marketing to fill a list of 50 things with everything already going on, but the extra bits are the most enticing.

Agreed, the little extra bits are the most exciting. My list was mostly little extra bits that have been heavily rumored and hinted at as possibilities for the 50th (Big Thunder, Hatbox Ghost, Carousel, Peoplemover, Jungle Cruise, Spaceship Earth, etc). Plus already announced things (or extremely supported by our insiders here as true). Plus replacements of current Star Wars temporary stuff in Studios (which I not unreasonable at all to expect when replacing them would be most likely with simple/cheap promotional stuff again qnd it would be two years after Galaxy's Edge opened).

The only real stretching/guessing I did was Star Tours, Spaceship Earth, and Tough to be a Bug. All of which seem like pretty reasonable assumptions to me as things that would be getting refurbishments/replacements in the next five years. Why not for the 50th?

I suppose the rumoredDinoland update/retheme might be pushing it to say 2021 as an option when WDI doesn't seem to even have a clear goal decided yet of scale or theme.

But, at the end of the day, all i tried to do was show how easy it is to add up to 50 with everything confirmed or rumored foe the next 3 years. Did it with very little stretching and no stupid stuff like bathrooms or renamed stores.

51. Refurb of Tomorrowland's facades
52. Whatever will replace Stitch
53. As mentioned, can't think they won't have a new 50th celebration day parade, or tweak FoF enough to make it one.
54-56. Whatever stuff they get done as part of the Epcot spine renovation
57. Coco overlay is still on the table. Gasping for breath.
58. WoL installation might be two things!
59. Outside chance for an extra ride/attraction at DHS or DAK (apart from what's replacing DinoRama).
60. Skyliner
61. Coronado Tower
62. Riviera Tower
63. Project 89 (new Wilderness DVC and/or hotel)
64. Parade of captured Fox executives down Main Street

Things pretty iffy, IMO:

a) Launch Bay and Star Tours replacements, and Star Wars Hub shows: I'm sure it's the plan to replace them. But without a plan for the plan, the plan is inertia and just letting them be.
b) Tower of Terror: If they're touching it, it won't be a minor thing. TZ will be out.
c) ITTBaB: no insider has given that any odds of that ever being touched.
d) I doubt WDW will take credit for a Swolphin tower.

There you go! I knew someone who knew more than me could do a better list. Assuming the fox deal doesn't cause a huuuuge cutting of budgets. 50 things over the next three years without dumb filler is easy. I'm particularly looking forward to the captured Fox executive parade. Its just a shame the guy who cancelled Firefly works for Sony now. Would've been nice to see him star in it lol

And yeah, Tough to Be a Bug was just my own assumption. I love it. But I literally don't know a single other person that does, it's in the center of the park, was replaced at DCA, is rarely if ever more than a third of the way full, and being a movie would be easy to replace even with just a montage of Disney Nature Films with some character like Russel from Up or whoever commenting on the film and narrating. Could be replaced for practically peanuts without even needing nee footage filmed. But again, thats just my speculation I'm no insider. In fact, the closest i came to inside info was when i worked on Main Street and overheard someone in the elevator say "so the theaters going here, right?" And another guy respond "yeah, but they don't announce it till next week." So my only insider info was for a project that was cancelled haha.

ITTBaB is only a third full at times because it has an insanely high capacity. Unlike theater shows with live performers where you might have only 5-8 shows a day. This one along with PhilHarmagic and MV3D no longer fill up (except on the crazy-packed days or the peak time of day) because they're continuously running for 10 - 13 hours a day. Which is fine, because then you don't have to worry about moving all the way down the row.*

*And if Disney ever got smart, they'd reorient their theaters to fill in from both sides with a divider down the middle... people would be more then happy to move all the way down to the middle from each side.
