If that is the honest truth and he's not lying to save face, I think there's a chance WDW will handle it like the past 2 or 3 anniversaries except they may or may not have decorations on the castle for a solid year or so. It might be best to say goodbye to dreams of major attraction refurbishments and new entertainment offerings that are standard at other Disney resorts and hello to more of these little beauties.View attachment 295367
There are plenty of big attractions opening in 2021 for the 50th

From what I can recall, there are only two confirmed attractions on the docket for that year. One is the GotG coaster in Epcot, which is being built as a key component of Epcot's redo rather than a "present" for the 50th. The other is the Tron coaster, which if it was created for the 50th, is a pretty underwhelming gift. I'm still hopeful for more, but one completely unnecessary attraction isn't going to cut it for me.

So you "personally" don't like what they are offering for the 50th. That doesn't mean they aren't doing anything for the 50th.

With Catherine Powell now overseeing the Western Region and the 25th DLP anniversary being such a highlight of her career I think she'll be after a big WDW 50th.
Well, that's reassuring. Hopefully, she can get things moving before it's too late to green light anything.

My comment may be driven by my opinions on the Tron coaster, but if you put that aside, there are certain elements to major Disney theme park anniversaries that are expected. These include major attraction refurbishments and new entertainment offerings among others. If an anniversary doesn't feature these standard procedures, then it will be deemed a failure by the fan community at large. It's as simple as that.

For the 50th, MK is getting:
  • TRON Cycle,
  • TRON Racers,
  • the completion of the Tomorrowland update
    • cleaned up public spaces,
    • Stitch replacement,
    • refreshes to CoP and TTA
  • new night time parade
  • new (or HEA-updated) fireworks
The new theater has been axed, but there are hints of one other major attraction update or addition (but considering the theater's axed... don't hold your breath).

Also, the 50th for the MK is also being considered a 50th for all of WDW, and so, the GotG ride will be considered part of it. The 50th celebration will bleed into 2022 and then incorporate Epcot's 40th. Hopefully, the spine re-do will be done as well as Brazil and maybe whatever seems to be ruminating with WoL pavilion.

And don't think that WDW won't market all the stuff coming online in the past few years leading up to the 50th won't get counted as part of the 50th celebration.

Mister Penguin I love that idea it's awesome! I was thinking of the Incredibles ride to replace Stitch's Greatest Escape for the 50th birthday. And a new night time Parade. I hope PTN to come to Disney World.

Most of which won't be announced closer to the actual event. The 50th is not like the others. It's almost stupid the parks celebrate the 40th, 45th etc. The 50th, however, is big and they will likely treat it as such.

I totally get that most things won't be announced until its closet to the actual event. It's just that we haven't heard much from insider sources about stuff being green lit, so we're left speculating on what is and isn't likely to happen. As for which anniversaries are and aren't worth celebrating, I let history be the judge of that. Disneyland celebrated their 40th and 45th anniversaries in a sizable fashion, so why not WDW?

Disneyland always seems to celebrate everything in a sizeable fashion while WDW seems to get the scaled back, less impressive version... I think gone are the days of the castle cake and the 50th treatmant Disneyland got....

At least it's sti'll alive and well in Tokyo.

I just hope Mk gets its own updates and not just Disneylands repeated, 7-8 years after they got them. Not that I’d mind the hatbox ghost or Thunder Mountain finale, but let’s update the effects on Jungle Cruise, sort out the theming of old fantasyland, the Tomorrowland speedway, get something into the Stitch space, new entertainment etc. Magic Kingdom deserves some love, it’s been neglected too long for allegedly the worlds busiest park.

*cough* new Space Mountain cars *cough*
