It would really be a embarrassment for WDW not to do something big for its 50th, and I’m sure they are aware they can’t skimp out this time. I sadly don’t expect it to be as big as the 20th, 25th or Millennium Celebration, even though it should top those celebrations IMO. Hopefully the park decorations and promotion will be something elaborated.

Anything less than a 15-month celebration will be a letdown in my book. Banners in all parks. Special 50th-themed, park-specific merchandise (which you cannot buy in every store and kiosk). Special fireworks tags. And none of the cheesy crap that TDO and P&R management pass off as "MAGICAL!!!" these days (Read - No cupcakes and no dance parties). Just a good ol' fashioned WDW-wide celebration. I don't care if that is considered "out-dated", "antiquated", et al. There should be no less for the Magic Kingdom's 50th anniversary.

For the 50th, MK is getting:
  • TRON Cycle,
  • TRON Racers,
  • the completion of the Tomorrowland update
    • cleaned up public spaces,
    • Stitch replacement,
    • refreshes to CoP and TTA
  • new night time parade
  • new (or HEA-updated) fireworks
That's if all planets align.

I'm half expecting Tron to be the only update to Tomorrowland

The new theater has been axed, but there are hints of one other major attraction update or addition (but considering the theater's axed... don't hold your breath).

Also, the 50th for the MK is also being considered a 50th for all of WDW, and so, the GotG ride will be considered part of it. The 50th celebration will bleed into 2022 and then incorporate Epcot's 40th. Hopefully, the spine re-do will be done as well as Brazil and maybe whatever seems to be ruminating with WoL pavilion.

And don't think that WDW won't market all the stuff coming online in the past few years leading up to the 50th won't get counted as part of the 50th celebration.

The day Tron opens would be a great day to close and re-track Space Mountain to have it open in time for October 2021. Too bad that out of all of the things we know won't happen, that won't happen the most.

EDIT: especially since I think TRON originally was supposed to open before 2021, and now definitely won't.

No Space should close BEFORE Tron opens so they have the capacity to handle the extra crowds when it opens. MK can handle losing SM for the better portion of a year before the crowds descend on Tron.

Space needs a full track replacement at this point. Any down time would be longer than a couple months if they were doing a proper job.
