So the type of thing Disneyland got for it's 45th in '00 or 60th in '15.... New Night Parade, New Fireworks, Parkwide decor, a few pluses or upgrades to classic attractions (Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, Haunted Mansion, Autopia, Thunder Mountain, etc.), maybe a new Castle rubberhead show, a few lifestyler blogfests with neckbeard men trying their first glass of wine in public, and a whole lot of "exclusive" merchandise?

Well, actually Disneyland didn't do the neckbeard wine party thing. That belongs to the Contemporary and California Grill. :D

But if there's not some big new E Ticket or New Land planned for MK's 50th in five years, then that tells me the menu of offerings will be like Disneyland's lesser anniversary "celebrations" of the last decade or so. Or is there something else planned for MK?
I'm going to be waiting for any news about the 50th in a future D23 event in a few years.

I'd obviously like more, but I'd be fine with getting what Land got for its 60th if they can't get the go ahead for something more.

Kinda OT, but your post made me giggle.... I have a neighbor who works in TDA in upper management, after hiring in at Disneyland as a college co-ed in the 1980's. I've mentioned her over the years in some previous threads over in the Disneyland forum, as we've had some great conversations over sunset cocktails in the last decade. One of the funny things she has talked about is the WDW management's weird obsession about giving nicknames to everything, and one of the nicknames that most annoys Disneylanders is the habit of calling Disneyland simply "Land". The WDW folks say it verbally in conversation, typed in emails (with a capital L, for some bizarre reason), on video conferences, etc. And it makes all the Disneylanders roll their eyes and snicker once the video conference ends.

I asked her what Disneylanders call WDW, and she looked at me and said "We call it Disney World. What else would you call it?" like I was a crazy East Coaster.

Southern Californians, whether they work for the Walt Disney Company or not, simply call Disneyland, Disneyland. It's three syllables. It's classy yet approachable. It's inherently American. Disneyland. No one in SoCal says "Land" in a sentence when they are talking about Disneyland.

Just one of those funny regional differences that make folks in other regions scrunch their nose or roll their eyes. But I'm sure there's something that Californians say that drives East Coasters crazy. Like the word pecan. Or maybe even the word SoCal. :D

Ours used to be the best one...I think if they just refreshed the effects and did some track work...added proper audio, it would be the best of the best... It certainly was the largest and most ambitious version... They really do need to make it as special as it once was without retracking it into a series of ramps like the Ca version... Leaving the original ride layout in place.
Martin has said in the past that the track replacement that was scheduled in 2009 would have been new track same layout. I'm concerned that if they move forward with a proper refurb now, that it will be neutered like the DL SM.

I doubt they'll say anything at D23 next August.

So that would leave us with: D23 Expo, August, 2019, Anaheim Convention Center. Be there!

However, it takes Disney around 5 years to build attractions :p. Maybe they will announce at D23 next year.

From what I understand a the new track was scheduled (same layout) as part of the refurb but then someone decided it was more important to save money so they kept the same track with new welds. The last time I rode it it was just as rickety as it was before the refurb. I like some of the updates of the refurb but the cost-cutting on the track was not one of them. People still pay to go through the turnstiles so I suppose it doesn't matter.

As a foreigner I always found that extremely tacky. I mean, I never got that over excessive sense of patriotism.

It's because it is in the parks mission statement, it's entire reason for being per its creator.

"Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America - with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world." -Walt Disney, July 17th, 1955

Walt Disney giving that speech at Disneyland's opening day, Anaheim, California.

The plaque with the text of that speech is still placed at the base of the flagpole on Main Street USA.

Disneyland is pure Americana, with no apologies for that. Disney has invited the world to see its American parks and revel in the values and culture that make America so great. Why wouldn't you end a big parade there with a patriotic finale'?

If Germany had invented a new entertainment concept dedicated to German ideals (Except 1932-1945, obviously. And 1914-1918 wasn't so hot either) that people from around the world flocked to, then I would fully expect there to be a patriotically German bent to the endeavor. Same with Australia or Kenya or South Korea or any other country.

I find patriotism is dieing....everyone wants to sail there own ship and in the end the lack of enthusiasm about the direction of the country or the character of it is sad to me....im 27 and nothing stirs my heart more than raw American power for lack of better wording. (The jets in the old soaring gave me a rush) but alass i also believe we are the best nation on earth a claim disputed by many. With that said i genuinely believe in the inginuity and vigor of the American spirit more than anything else even as far from perfect as it might be. We put men on the damn moon! We saved the entire continent of europe arguably! We dispelled the chains of tyranny and told one of the most powerful militarys in the world to go pound sand. We invented the modern intirarion of democracy. We as a people have achieved all of this and more....as Americans! Hell Disney amd his genius was as American as it gets and he built greatness that the entire world now enjoys. I could go on forever.

Not to derail so my apologies but these are just my thoughts.

I suppose the point of view is from WHO.

Latinamerica as its pretty big share of BAD things happening thanks to US's foreign policies.
So yeah, not a fan of extreme patriotism regardless of what country it is from.
Besides, blindly patriotism is dangerous. No different from Stalin's version of Nazism.

But about the ideals. No idea it had to do with putting huge displays related to patriotism. (ps, dont you miss when people were going further than anywhere, like in the moon missions. For the sake of science, curiosity and patriotism. Now its all about the costs, costs cuts and "not affecting MY bonuses")

As for the parade thing. At least they didnt put full armored tanks or a Rambo jesus ;)

Irony i do alot of armored warefare reading....i love seeing a tank in a parade at home. Theres poor placement of recent policy such as Latin America but keep in mind alot of that ties back to our whole anti communism crusade. Your blind patriotism point is so well said. Its amazingly true hence why i support America i love and what it is meant to be furthermore i dont blindly support the goverment and openly support the second amendment above and beyond. This to me is the ultimate last resort for our owj goverment becoming a tyrant. (Pretty close IMO). That is neither here nor there the parade float is a reminder of the greatness Americans used to be proud about before my generarion became cry babys.
