WDW has ridiculous amounts of empty expansion pads.

There's no rational reason to demo Tom Sawyer Island before using those pads

The largest expansion pad can't be adequately accessed without doing something with the space between HM and BTM, which is filled with RoA and TSI.

I’m 19. Took honors and AP classes all throughout high school and college. We have never once talked about Mark Twain. It’s an outdated property that needs a refurb.

What authors do they now cover in literature classes throughout high school? Genuinely I am curious who they now deem as relevent to literature, particularly American literature?

I am not that old and I was taught Mark Twain, mind you I was taught it in high school, never in during my Bachelors -> Doctorate at University, but still it seems like a diservice to not even acknowledges the mans contributions to 20th century literature.

That sounds more like a failure of curriculum than a "mark" against Twain.

My mom is a elementary school teacher. No kid has ever talked about Tom Sawyer. It’s dead. Everyone who is an adult thinks it’s some classic treasure that can’t be replaced. They’re wrong. Every kid cares about Minecraft and Fortnite. Not reading books about Tom Sawyer.

“All the hip and cool kids care about Chatty Cathy and the Beatles, why doesn’t Walt Disney replace Tom Sawyer Island with something based on the Ed Sullivan Show or Gunsmoke?”

I think you're forgetting the other 3 incredibly under-developed parks with huge amounts of expansion pads, in dire new of increased capacity.

Like I said, no rational reason to demo TSI before those pads at all parks have been used.

Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

With all due respect it’s taken them nearly 3 decades to give MK a new E Ticket so the thought of them expanding significantly further with a new land, so close after Tron is slightly suspect

Plus, Adventureland and Fantasyland still have major issues

Mark Twain is regarded as one of the greatest writers of all time! Huckleberry Finn is on several "greatest book of all time" lists as well. Give it a read, you might like it! :)

Have you ever watched the American Adventure at Epcot? Mark Twain is the one with the funny mustache. ;)

You seem to have a chip on your shoulder for some reason (you are 19 after all and we are old fogies) but as an “AP/Honor student” you should know better than to compare literary works to Fortnite, Minecraft, or Overwatch.

Also my nephew who is 14 knows who Mark Twain is after I texted him asking of he was ever taught about the author. You may want to ask your mom why your teachers never mentioned the man.

If what you say is true I am further depressed about our current education system.

I'm not necessarily saying I want TSI to be gotten rid of. But looking at this map it is pretty clear that between the expansions pads behind it and the land of TSI/rivers itself... This is a massive space. About the size of a fourth of the current park. Plenty of room to add more quiet spaces to replace what was lost and new attractions.

I don't think this should be done right now or anytime soon (some people eating attractions for the MK and but up the other parks should come first in my mind). But this seems pretty clear to me as the smart choice for when they decide to do a major MK expansion.

This may be a stupid question but I don’t think I’ve even been to that island since 2003. Is there room to add a ride of any kind on it?

The only thing I’d be happy to replace the Rivers of America would be something themed to American history, maybe something based off the Industrial Revolution with an E ticket based off a Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court. Something like this.

With that famous "blessing of size" there must be another way to expand the park. Without that lush green space, you end up with a ...wait for it... view like Pixar / Paradise Pier. Empty, soulless, and lacking design depth.

While we know that's what we'd end up with (sucks to be jaded, doesn't it? LOL, but I agree with you), there's always the hope it's not! But I think they should look elsewhere first. But we know they won't. I think it's just a matter of time, even if it's a decade from now. But I'd love to be wrong. Eventually they'd have to circle around to it ... sadly.

How about no.

I could see them pulling a Disneyland route and shorten the rivers of America to build an expansion behind it...and then they’d be able to access the expansion pad back there, while keeping part of one of the best things in MK. I LOVE TSI and it truly is a gem in the midst of chaos.

I think that could happen now (but do you think we'd even get close to what Disneyland got as part of their river makeover?) but probably wouldn't have before when TSI was indeed a target of some sort. I'm glad that didn't happen. They can expand before they touhch it. But they could probably easily do that first. Rework the boat route and have an attraction behind the island, if there's room. I'm sure there is but I haven't looked at aerials in a while.

We should be grateful Lone Ranger bombed and we should be grateful we don't have any Frontier movies heading our way. When we do ....

They could always plop a clone of Grizzly River Rapids onto the island and theme it to the wild west and call it a day. So I'm torn when I want anything to happen because I know what we'd end up with. LOL

I agree. Except for finding more space for the overcrowded Hub (see my sig for the fireworks viewing expansion); all expansion should be in the other three parks until they can lure enough people from MK.
