I have pretty small hands. I just think of it as gossip. I have no problem remembering that. Instead of Days of Our Lives it's This Dude/Date/War/Scandal in History.

I remember reading an Archie comic where Betty and Veronica took a similar approach.

Any particular angle/era that gets your mojo going?

I always liked more modern history until I took a Roman History class. I think that is probably the most fascinating period I have studied so far. I enjoy European History more than American history, but I found colonial America to be an interesting time.

If I had studied history, I'd probably have enjoyed the same thing

I'm not a fan of American history, except colonial America. But I much prefer European history and ancient Rome/Greece :D

Oh and hi  I'm Regina

I'm Rachel! I thought that I would hate my colonial America class, but it was so fascinating!

I had a friend in college who wanted to be a history teacher, but she thought the only thing worth studying was European history. ANY discussion of American history brought on a lecture about how boring and irrelevant it was.

I used to tell her I wouldn't let her teach my kids. :lookaroun

Unfortunately, you have to be more in tune with American history and government to be a social studies teacher. Here, we get world history and geography 2 years. I was thinking of becoming certified in social studies, but yes American history is somewhat boring to me  Irrelevant? No, just boring :p

I can see where if your interests run more toward the "romantic Old World" stuff, where American history wouldn't be tops on your list. But at least give the Colonial period and the Civil War their due, I say. There's no end of interesting stuff in those, if you ask me. She couldn't even admit that much. :p

It is definitely not irrelevant, especially considering how young of a nation this is. However, European history is much more colorful in my opinion. Some of the things that their rulers did and got away with absolutely amaze me.

I'm going for a few hours. It was nice to meet everyone! I should be back later this evening.

I had a pompous Australian guy teach me Ancient Greek and Roman history... greatest prof I ever had.

My US History professor my first semester of college was this cool old guy. He had to be in his 70s and he wiped his mouth a lot, but when he got going on something, he'd start pounding on tables and really get into it. I enjoyed his lectures.

On the other hand, I had a history course sophomore year taught by an Italian woman with a thick accent who basically read from the textbook and thought throwing in "hell" and "damn" occasionally would spice up the class.
